January 24, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - In a sharp rebuke aimed at France and Germany, Secretary of State Colin Powell yesterday lashed out at countries that want to duck a showdown with Iraq, saying America will have plenty of friends in the foxhole without them.

A boycott of France and Germany is pretty easy, they don't produce many things of value and the things they do produce of value can be substituted with products of equal or greater quality.

WESEL

District (Kreis) : Wesel (until 1974 Rees)
Additions : 1969 Flüren, Obrighoven-Lackhausen, 1975 Bislich, Büderich, Diersfordt
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen

Origin/Meaning:
The arms are mainly canting (Wesel = weasel). A weasel already appears on the first known seal, which dates from the early 13th century. The main image of the seal shows a gate with Emperor Heinrich VII and Count Theodor of Kleve. Under the gate the weasel is seen. In 1269 on a smaller seal only the weasel appears. Both the large and smaller seals remain similar until the 16th century. In the 14th century arms with three weasels are mentioned (these never appeared on the seals). Around 1600 the weasels are placed on the original arms of the counts of Kleve.

Literature : Stadler, K. : Deutsche Wappen - Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Angelsachsen Verlag, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.

Note to the french and germans: Your support is neither needed or wanted.

No one seems to stop and even ask: "Why would we want their support anyway? What would they contribute?" Neither France nor especially Germany have military resources which would add value to the war effort. Israel and Turkey are far more formidable military powers.

Rumsfeld is onto something quite profound, which ought to lead to a complete reassessment of the post-WWII organization.

I object to calling France and Germany weasels. It's an insult to weasels (those lovely furry creatures) around the world.

Amen! We make great wines in America, Australia, Spain and Italy. There is zero need for the over priced and not as good Frenchy labeled wine or any wine from Germany.

We do not buy anything made in ChiCom land. On 1 January, we stopped buying anything from the French and German war criminals. That was fairly easy for us.

We are not booking one of those small cruise ships which cruise in Euro Trash land. A group of us had tentative plans for this in early September. That is now gone. If we go over, we will visit the UK, Spain and Italy.

"Germany and France reveal themselves as the countries with the most to lose once the world discovers what has been going on in Iraq for the past 12 years."

Good point.

(P.S. Buy California wines. They're better anyway.)

Yep...and they're consistently good.

...walk away from this problem' or ignore it or allow it to be strung out indefinitely with no end, I think would be a - defeat for the international community and a serious defeat for the United Nations process," Powell said in a slam clearly directed at France and Germany.

I agree that Powell is playing good cop/bad cop and also is probably fairly irrigated at being made to look bad by our "allies", but I hear something else going on here and I HOPE I'm right.

I hear him telling his allies that what they're doing is hurting their collective goal of promoting and strengthening the UN over the sovereignty of countries--most of all the US.

I hope he's right that President Bush is perfectly willing to leave the UN behind to rot in irrelevence and impotence. In fact I hope that's exactly what happens. My second biggest fear in this is that the President would end up enhancing the power and prestige of the UN at our expense. (The first biggest fear is the obvious--WMD used against our troops and/or populace.)

No, I know the Post's story was real ... but the "fake" article had Rumsfeld as the one who said it and then apologizing for saying it. THAT was the story that wasn't real.

I cant wait for the mighty US military to clean up the Iraqi trash, liberate the people and I can't wait for us to find a huge cache of WMD and some receipts from france and germany in Saddam's ledger. You know we will, and THEY know we will.

I can't wait to humiliate the leadership over there.

Europe needs to be liberated from the liberals.
