"This kind of moral hubris was best articulated by Cliff Kindy, an organizer for Christian Peacemakers, a group that has been active gathering seniors from Canada and U.S. to act as human shields. "You get about 500 grandmas and grandpas from around the world and you scatter them around Iraq and dare the U.S. to bomb them," Kindy told The Chicago Tribune. "That would give them a collective moral authority." 4th Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, Part 3, Article 1, Section 28:
"The presence of a protected person (aka civilian noncombatant) may not be used to render certain points or areas immune from military operations."

"Don't interfere with the buzz-saw when it is busy cutting wood." Couldn't have said it better. Lenin had the greatest contempt for people like this, he called them "useful idiots".
These people won't even amount to speedbumps. If they put themselves into harms way in order to contribute to the defense of the enemy, they will give up their lives to become a footnote in history. Nothing more.

"As one would reasonably expect, Grace Trevett's children are heartsick about their mother's intention to travel to Baghdad to become a "human shield." The 45- year-old mother of four is part of the latest convoy of British anti-war protestors on its way to Iraq."
They should try to look at the bright side. Maybe their mother will win a Darwin award!

the misbegotten faith that U.S.-led forces will not rain bombs down on their own -- This kind of moral hubris... This is the first comment I've seen that has mentioned an aspect of the "human shield" nonsense that has bothered me from the start. Why do they assume they're so special? Because they're from Canada or the US? Do they seriously believe that the entire effort would grind to a halt just because their "special" little selves are mincing around Saddam's weapons sites?

Message delivered to her children: A bunch of unknown Iraquis are much more important to me than you...after all, to you I'm just your mother, but to them, to them I can be a meaningless shield...and maybe get my name in the paper.

I suggest that Bush use this to our advantage. We can now start releasing intelligence information more freely and name these human shields as our sources. Just say we put a tag in one of their appendages and tracked where Saddam was sticking them.

Let's start a fund to send Svend over there.
And any other NDP Islamo-fascist sympathizers who wish to accompany him.
We might have to charter one of those 'Sun-Fun' 747s usually taking canucklehead chumps to Cuba.

As one would reasonably expect, Grace Trevett's children are heartsick about their mother's intention to travel to Baghdad to become a "human shield." If I had reason to believe that I might have inherited the stupid-to-the-bone gene, I'd be heartsick, too.
