What are the REAL reasons Euro-weanies aren't with us on Iraq?

I'd like to know the real reasons for the lack of support from our European "allies." My guess is that the French are scared the world will find out the extent to which French industries have been violating the UN sanctions. In the case of the Germans, my guess is it goes much further: they are terrified the extent of support by many German interests for the NAZI regime in Iraq will be unmasked. There is a growing return of National Socialist sentiment in Germany.

If the US withdraws from these international organizations, who will pay for them?

America is the big dog at the Top of the Hill, have been for a hundred years and don't plan on leaving any time soon...

For some ridiculous reason Madame Poodle and Herr Daschund think they should somehow be sharing the Top with us.

Grrrrrr....

There are some excellent responses on this thread. I'll add another one -- the euros in question are all leftists impatient for more state control over the peoples of Europe. One way for them to acheive this quickly, is to permit the islamic terrorists to wreak havoc on their continent very extensively. Yes, it will cost them in the short run, but in the long run they will get just what they want -- permission to impose de facto dictatorship everywhere. Of course, they will allow occasional plebiscites, but there will no longer be anything even remotely like democracy in places like France and Germany. This, IMO, is what they ultimately want.

"...think they should somehow be sharing the Top with us."

It's even worse than that -- they think they should replace us at the top, even though they've done absolutely nothing to earn that distinction and couldn't maintain it if they did have it. Concerning Germany, the really embarassing open secret there is that Schroeder has driven the German economy so deeply into the red that they couldn't afford to lend military or even logistical support to us even if they wanted to. They are, as always, utterly dependent on our protection for their very survival, just as France is.

The real reason is both more boring an more alarming than you posit.

The Europeans have decided that the main lesson from the Cold War is that negotiation and treaties are the way to avoid armed conflict. In their opinion, it was European diplomats than avoided all out war with the Soviet Union. Not American arms.

Therefore, they believe European negotiators are the best way to resolve problems in the Middle East. The U. S. with it's armed forces are getting in the way of the real solution.

You just may be right -- both the French and German are indeed wildly delusional on all counts....As usual.
