Police station attacked in Kosovo
Wed, Jan 22, 2003
PRISTINA, Yugoslavia - An explosive device was thrown at the regional police headquarters in western Kosovo on Wednesday night, causing some material damage, a U.N. spokesman said.
No one was injured in the blast which occurred in the town of Pec, 80 kilometers (50 miles) west of Pristina, said Andrea Angeli, a U.N. spokesman.
"As a result of the explosion some windows were broken and there is some material damage," he said. Police have cordoned off the area and are investigating the blast, Angeli said.
The device, which according to the U.N. police sources was an anti-tank missile, was fired from close range.
Kosovo, which officially remains part of Yugoslavia, has been run by United Nations (news - web sites) and NATO (news - web sites)-led peacekeepers since June 1999, after an alliances war to stop a crackdown of Serb forces against independence minded ethnic Albanians.
U.N. police are in charge of security in the province.
HAHHH hes over at the D.U. Leading them to ...er ...ummmm...glory?
"WE" aren't. We never were. You're in the wrong forum for that complaint, though you have the heartfelt sympathies of the only forum composed of real Americans who were adamantly opposed to the utter ATROCITY instigated by the Bill Clinton and MAD Albreight, with the FULL cooperation of the UN.
Please disregard my previous reply...I've read and listened to so much US bashing in the past two weeks that my tired brain automatically read that as "US" instead of "EU"
Sorry.
As you will note, Bobi re-wrote my comment directed at the UN, in order to point out that the US was very much on board with the decisions concerning Kosovo, which of course is correct.
My remarks that the EU, having wanted to save the Kosovars, must now figure out what to do with them, as their territory becomes safe-haven for terrorists and organized crime, certainly could apply to the US. But of course the EU is much closer to the problem than we are, and will not be able to avoid dealing with it at some point.
I have said numerous times that US policy in the nineties was custom-designed by Riyadh. We know that the Bush family has business interests in Saudi Arabia, and could be expected to be sympathetic to Saudi interests. This would explain, in part, W's kid-glove treatment of the Saudis considering what they deserve.
But sympathetic or not, Bush Jr has not hesitated to go after Saudi interests in the aftermath of 9/11, as he has attacked Saudi operations in Afghanistan, the Philippines, Georgia, has turned his back on the Chechens, and is now going after Saddam despite Saudi objections.
No, to find examples of abject subservience to Saudi wishes you must look at the Clinton era. There are a number of policies that make no sense from a US standpoint, but perfect sense if you have been purchased by the Saud family. I would love to get a look at Clinton's Saudi accounts.
President Bush has really only turned up the diplomatic heat on the Saudis. I sincerely hope that the Saudis sudden;y learn the concept of creative solutions to political problems, because if the destablization of the region predicted by Saudi Arabia really does occur when Saddam is gone, than the House of Saud will likely be toast. They have only themselves to thank. They created the problem and allowed it to fester in order to keep themselves in power.
The attack on the UN police of course had nothing to do with fear of "black UN helicopters" from the "freedom loving" Albanians and everything to do with advancing a terrorist cause that has allowed a part of Europe to become a narco-terrorist white slaver's safehaven.

My apologies!
Tell me where were you EXACTLY when the UN commissioned a UN army to bomb Serbia? What is the number of the UN resolution that authorized bombing of Serbia and Montenegro?
Waiting patiently for your reinvented "history".
Ok, didn't read the whole thread through for your response, which is a mistake I often make :) Still, it appears as though you're hedging. The war against Yugoslavia, and on behalf of terrorists using methods very much like John Muhamed (try and think of an attack on Maryland in support of 2,000 John Muhameds for a second), was completely a US-directed war.
Perhaps you are confused by the fact that countries like Germany cheerfully joined in the US-led aggression against Serbia and Montenegro. But a simple history of modern Europe should clear that up rather quickly.

Kosovo UN police building attacked, no casualties
PRISTINA, Yugoslavia, Jan 22 (Reuters) - An explosive device hit a United Nations police building in Kosovo on Wednesday, causing damage but no casualties, a U.N. spokesman said.
A Western source said the building in the town of Pec may have been hit by a rocket-propelled grenade but the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) did not say what kind of device was used.
"Tonight, around 7:30 p.m. (1830 GMT) an explosive device hit UNMIK police headquarters in Pec," U.N. spokesman Andrea Angeli said.
It was believed to be the first attack on a U.N. police building in the Yugoslav province, under U.N.-led administration since 1999 when a NATO bombing campaign drove out Serb troops to halt their repression of Kosovo's Albanian majority.
Angeli said the blast damaged two floors of the building which was largely empty at the time.
Kosovo's Albanian leaders are striving restore law and order to win international support for their independence bid.
A few weeks ago three Kosovo Albanian men were shot dead in Pec in what appeared to be part of a feud between gangs from the disbanded ethnic Albanian Kosovo Liberation Army.
Since I'm on the subject of historical revisionism, we have witnessed concrete proof for 3 years of how corporate media have deliberately followed instruction to play a role in promoting an imperialist history of the aggression against Serbia. Whenever you confront one of those know-it-alls who wants to see evidence of "conspiracy" on the part of the "diverse" and "free" press, all you have to do to set them straight is recommend a keyword search for "Kosovo" in any media database, including here at FR. Over 90% of the articles on Kosovo include a "brief" of the sort quoted above to explain why Albanians are allowed to kill or attack anyone at will in Kosovo; burn down homes and churches, sell children into slavery, etc.
Now they're just lying, which shows how desperate the Gestapo-wannabes are to keep their miserable "careers" as Kofi Annan's protectors of Greater Albania. Who exactly "believes" that it was the first attack on a UN police station? Simon Haselock? Hashim Thaqi? Madeleine Albright?
As for the rest of that sentence, see my post above.
