Here they go again,
The Yanks in their armoured parade
Chanting their ballads of joy
As they gallop across the big world
Praising America's God.
The gutters are clogged with the dead
The ones who couldn't join in
The others refusing to sing
The ones who are losing their voice
The ones who've forgotten the tune.
The riders have whips which cut.
Your head rolls onto the sand
Your head is a pool in the dirt
Your head is a stain in the dust
Your eyes have gone out and your nose
Sniffs only the pong of the dead
And all the dead air is alive
With the smell of America's God.

Yet another
idiot poet heard from about US vs. Iraq. I've never heard of this guy before, but he's sounding like just another EUroweenie to me. If you want to talkback to the author of this crap, feel free to check out his forum at:
http://pub26.ezboard.com/ftheharoldpintercommunityfrm1. And ask him what the hell the "
pong of the dead" means.
Is that anything like the dreaded "nintendo of the damned?"

Pinter is a playwrite whose main innovation was the "pregnant pause" - long intervals between speaking. I was on the tech crew for one of his plays in college, and it was dreadful - easily the worst thing I ever participated in in my 10+ year theatrical career.

I believe "pong" is Brit slang for stink. You might ask MadIvan.

This is what I think he meant:
Here they go again, The Muslims in their armoured parade
Chanting their ballads of joy
As they gallop across the big world
Praising Allah.
The gutters are clogged with the dead
The ones who couldn't join in
The others refusing to sing
The ones who are losing their voice
The ones who've forgotten the tune.
The riders have whips which cut.
Your head rolls onto the sand
Your head is a pool in the dirt
Your head is a stain in the dust
Your eyes have gone out and your nose
Sniffs only the pong of the dead
And all the dead air is alive
With the smell of Allah.

Oh... as in "this poem pongs like ass?" ;-) When one's ass doth pong,
One must wash it.
Tis not enough just to spray
Patchouli on it,
For then it yet pongs
Like Joan Baez's ass.
Wow, pretty deep. Could I get a job as a pong poet in the UK?

Here's the good news: Pinter has cancer. The bad news: he's still alive.
What sorts of things to you have to swallow and/or regurgitate to get esophageal cancer?

Pinter's plays, "The Caretaker," "The Dumbwaiter," were all the rage back in the '60s: Nihilism on parade.
It never fails: Nihilists hate America.

Here they come again,
The cowards in their quisling parade
Sneering their boilerplate sanctimony
As they skulk in their hiding places
Cursing America's greatness.
The gutters are clogged with the craven
The ones who couldn't be bothered
The others refusing to act
The ones who are losing their shame
The ones who've forgotten their principles.
The hiders wear fig leaves which wilt.
Their heads are buried in sand
Their tears make a pool in the dirt
Their courage is a stain in their pants
Their eyes are shut tight and their scrotums
Hold only ping pong balls
And all the airwaves are alive
With the sound of American victory.

He's married to Dame Antonia Fraser, a stellar historian whose books are quite accessible and interesting, and not overly informed by a feminist viewpoint.

Ever watch MST3K? During the abysmal Cave Dwellers, starring the abysmal Miles O'Keefe, Servo comments that the movie has "more pauses than a Pinter play."

LOL! They nailed it! Take the pauses from a Pinter play and you got 15-20 minutes, tops!

Yes, that does work much better than the 'Poet Idiotic's' verse.
