[history]
January 22, 2003 -- Former U.N. weapons inspector Scott Ritter shouldn't have gotten a free pass after he was arrested for soliciting an underage girl in a police Internet sting, says the district attorney whose office muffed the case by dropping the charge.

"The problem is that people have trouble seeing white, middle-class, well-educated men as potential child molesters - not just ADAs, but judges and juries as well," she said. Excuse me. Does this woman really think that's why it was covered up?
To: Fred Mertz
Plus, I figure the cop and ADA didn't even know Ritter from Shinola, so I don't suspect any cover up. The only cover I see, is the DA firing the ADA to cover his hiney. Somebody knew, or the story wouldn't just have come out.

Not really, cops talk if someone ticks them off. And since Ritter's been on everyone's nerves, it's possible his numerous appearances on TV have awoken the memory of a cop on the case, and annoyed him enough to speak up.
Or someone could be doing it to get the assistant DA in dep doo. They succeeded, she's fired.

Technically pedophilia has an upper age limit of 12. Neither case was true pedophilia. And whether we want to admit it or not, many start having sex after then. Of course it is Planned Parenthood's policy to assist in the coverup.

POOH....Don't mention it. I am, in point of fact, a particularly haughty and exclusive person, of pre-Adamite ancestral descent. You will understand this when I tell you that I can trace my ancestry back to a protoplasmal primordial atomic globule. Consequently, my family pride is something inconceivable. I can't help it. I was born sneering. But I struggle hard to overcome this defect. I mortify my pride continually. When all the great officers of State resigned in a body because they were too proud to serve under an ex-tailor, did I not unhesitatingly accept all their posts at once?PISH....And the salaries attached to them? You did.

So, Scott, what have you been probing? <G>
Kidding aside, it brings a new and unwholesome light to this declaration in
Time that in Iraq he saw what...
"...appeared to be a prison for children toddlers up to pre-adolescents whose only crime was to be the offspring of those who have spoken out politically against the regime of Saddam Hussein. It was a horrific scene
Actually Im not going to describe what I saw there because what I saw was so horrible that it can be used by those who would want to promote war with Iraq, and right now Im waging peace."
I wonder if he got any dates there.

Even in the liberal utopia of Illinois, this behavior is unacceptable. A state university administrator used the same MO as Ritter, except the attempted crime crossed state and gender lines to a Wisconsin restaurant.
News of the arrest cost the perpetrator the university job. Ritter gets busted doing the same thing TWICE! Case closed?
There must be more here. This reeks of dogpatch Bar (Arkansas hillbilly lawyer) ethics.

My sister laughs whenever I use the word poobah and twice a year asks me what the definition is. I tell her it's like a high muckity muck.
I shall have to see the Mikado on VHS or DVD. I admit I have never seen it. I am nekulturny

In it, he defined nekulturny as being of the sort of person who watched tractor pulls, if your collective farm was THAT sophisticated, else you were into bear-baiting and cow-tipping :o)

one of the elements of his supposed crime is that he put a young one at risk. There was no young one. Just an over aged cop. Doesn't anyone else find that kind of odd? Cops often pose as postitutes to arrest Johns. The crime is the attempted solicitation of a prostitute. In Ritter's case, it is the attempted sexual crime with an underage girl, a much worse crime than trying to have sex with a prostitute.

Posing as a prostitute is easy, it is a simple lie. Anyone can say they will do sex for money. Presto chango instant prostitute. A 21 year old or older police woman, posing as a 14 year old or a 16 year old girl maybe some people's dream but it still doesn't make her underage.
I think Lincoln had a story about this. Suppose you and I make an agreement that a donkey's tail counts as a leg. I ask you "How many legs does that donkey have?" You answer "Five!" "Just four, we can agree about it all we want, but it doesn't make it so!"
The cop is 21 or better, and no amount of twisted logic will make her younger. Why not have her pose as a baby? And then he would be guilty of pedophilia. Or maybe she could pose as the Queen of England, we could get Scotland Yard involved.
Of course trying to have sex with a kid is much worse, but there were no kids involved.

I agree the PD should have searched his compuer for real people, maybe the ADA stopped that too? As for using overage cops to catch those committing crimes against children, how would you propose to do it without them? Wait till the crime is committed? True that would be the best way but I think pro-active crime prevention is a far better service to the community especially where the young, old and weak are concerned.
Too bad the case is sealed the chat transcripts would probably make interesting reading on the internet to see how this clown really thinks and whether he was "entraped" "predisposed" or a real blithering idiot........

I hope they confiscate his computer to examine it for any other online conversations with teens. If he was cought twice, he may have others that he actually met.
