TEHRAN, Jan 21 (AFP) - Prospective Palestinian suicide bombers should not miss the opportunity of striking at the increased number of US troops in the region, a leading Iranian hardliner wrote Tuesday.
In an editorial in his Keyhan newspaper, Hossein Shariatmadari reasoned that American troops were a far easier target for "martyrdom-seeking operations" than Israelis.
Hundreds of young Palestinians are ready to carry out martyrdom-seeking operations... so why should they not make the most of the presence of US troops in the region to take revenge," the vocal hardliner said.
"It would be easier than carrying out such operations in Palestine."
Shariatmadari said if such suicide attacks began in the event of a US attack on Iraq, "without doubt the Muslim masses would mobilise to take part in this holy war".
"Is the American presence in the region not a golden opportunity for those seeking martyrdom to realise their dream?" he said.
In November, Shariatmadari called for the opening of a "new front" against Israel, just hours after Israeli tourists were killed by suicide bombers in Kenya.

When we make our bombing runs over Baghdad, its not THAT difficult to save a few JDAMs for the return flight over Qom.

I guess soldiers should shoot all A-rabs upon sight until they get the message not to try to bomb themselves to paradise,

Why should they target Americans, when there are so many of their Sunni Moslem rivals waiting to be embraced all over the globe ??
To: knighthawk
They still think this is the same de-fanged military under Clintoon.
Rest assured, the rules of engagement have been changed. Any slight perceived threat will be dealt with, like you wouldn't believe.
Let them try. Our boys there would be happy to be relieved of the boredom.

If the Iranian people don't do something about their mad mullahs, Iran may be next on the strike list after Iraq...then again, Hossein...if you die in the middle of the night during a surgical hit, BUT NO ONE KNOWS HOW YOU DIED...are you still a martyr?

Rather like nuking NYC to get rid of a Clinton (say, HRH Hitlery!, for example). One, it won't take out the establishment and two, it will turn the average Iranian on the street against us.
Pray, instead, for freedom for the people of Iran.

Why should they target Americans, when there are so many of their Sunni Moslem rivals waiting to be embraced all over the globe ?? Arab mindset, says Raphael Patai in his excellent book, The Arab Mind. To the Arab, he says, the world is a place of ever-broadening eternal circles of conflict, to wit: "I against my brother", "My brother and I against..."
America is the larger enemy, against which all Muslims should fight (say the Wahhabis). With America and other such larger threats gone, the more local squabbles can resume.

"Pray, instead, for freedom for the people of Iran."How about we compromise : pray for the freedom of the people of Iran, while also praying for Hossein to...say...commit suicide?
Think the mad mullahs - or the people of Iran - will take the hint?

If such an Islamkazi attack on US forces in the region should occur, the first JDAMs should be targeted on this guy's house, and his mosque too, if as I suspect he's some kind of Iman or Ayatollah. If not, wherever he hangs his turban when he's not at home.

the first JDAMs should be targeted on this guy's house In fact, I expect the targeteers are figuring out the UTM/GPS coordinates of his house and other hangouts, as we type. Since Iran is so much more convient to the ocean than Iraq, this little mission should probably go to the flying Squids. (Unless it's so close to the sea, that naval gunfire could do the job, in which case I'm really sorry that they mothballed the Missouri class BBs)
