THE OTHER JESSE. . .AND IT'S NOT JJ

J. Grant Swank, Jr. POB l984, Windham ME 04062

Pastor, New Hope Church, Windham ME

Jesse Jackson is getting older and more and more irrelevant. His days were “once,” but not now. In his gut, he knows it. (But there are those within his following who champion Jackson The Man when it comes to social, religious and particularly political insight.)

Sad, but such happens from time to time to those who enjoy applause for a season but then at some point are prodded by circumstance and reason gracefully to lay down the applause meter to tend to more mature matters — in a more mature style.

Alas, JJ has yet to come upon such sophisticated awareness. Given his ego, he probably never will come to such refined state of mind. That is even sadder in that a once intelligent, dynamic speaker as Jackson realistically could have folded into an articulate growing-older spokesman for truth and wisdom, as numerous others have matured.

However, ‘tain’t gonna happen, brother ‘n’ sister. ‘Tain’t gonna happen, no way! At least not if JJ’s brain cells continue to perk out the nonsense of late. And “of late”, of course, is the Iraqi hell “over there” that wants to transport its “evil” worldwide, along with the other Islamic extremists who live by certain bloodthirsty paragraphs of the Koran.

It’s time for JJ to shine, he concludes. If there ever was a cause worth giving one’s ego to, it’s the present Iraqi-versus sane world “happening.” Now, of course, no one can ever accuse JJ of being late, that is, when it comes to mugging it in front of a camera. “JJ On the Spot”, we call him.

Now as to his present harangues blasted against conservatives and President Bush in particular, JJ has an arsenal chuck full of this-n-that.

For starters, JJ has stated that Ashcroft is “a foot soldier for the race-bait, anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-civil rights politics of the radical right. Ashcroft’s Justice Department is a threat to established American civil rights and civil liberties. . .”

His tirade goes on: “The Bush White House considers itself above the law, and immune to scrutiny and accountability.”

With that as his baseline, JJ has gassed up his engines against Bush and the rest of the sensible USA. JJ’s rat pack includes the NAACP, AFL-CIO, NOW, ACLU and the Arab American Institute. They are on their high horses, giving forth with demands leveled against Bush. For example, JJ and Company want to put a stop to racial profiling. They also want voting rights for ex-felons as well as same-day voter registration. Further, they push for more relaxed immigration laws.

BUT. . .consider this, my friends: there IS another Jesse. His name? Reverend Jesse Lee Peterson. He’s President of BOND —Brotherhood Organization of A New Destiny, headquartered in Los Angeles (bond@bondinfo.org).

Not lacking in intelligence or planning and speaking skills, Rev. Peterson aggressively confronts JJ’s lunacy with a public-action plan. It’s a rally outside JJ’s Rainbow / PUSH Los Angeles offices. When? Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday—Monday, January 20, 2003, all morning.

It’s staged as the Fourth Annual National Day of Repudiation of Jesse Jackson on Martin Luther King Jr’s Birthday.

“On the first anniversary of 9-11, the American people are paying their respects to the victims of the terrorist attacks, and President Bush is preparing the nation for possible war against Saddam Hussein and Iraq. Meanwhile, domestic enemies like Jackson are concocting ways to undermine our war efforts,” states Rev. Peterson. "For Jackson to demand that we open our borders and stop profiling suspected terrorists in time of war is insane!"

"Jesse Jackson is out of control! He has lost his moral authority to lead, and he is desperately trying to make himself relevant both on domestic and international affairs," said Rev. Peterson. "Our goal is to repudiate Jackson once and for all and show the entire nation that this man is a racist, anti-American who is a threat to the security of this country. Furthermore, I'm offering Jesse Jackson a 'free one way ticket to Baghdad' if he'll turn in his passport and promise never to come back," offers Rev. Peterson.

The populace of sanity needs to listen up to Rev. Peterson, an Afro-American, sometimes referred to as “the other Jesse.” He is one of the most articulate civil-rights leaders today in America.

Considering what JJ is up to most of the time, Rev. Peterson has concluded that “it looks like I have a job for life!” In other words, as long as JJ can wiggle his larynx, the Reverend will be on call.

Regarding the present NAACP to be an instrument of the “elite, socialist Democratic Party,” Peterson goes forth. BOND seeks to set the political record on a logical, realistic balance, especially when it comes to JJ and Company’s off-kilter diatribes.

BOND seeks to “rebuild the family by rebuilding the man” and from that rebuild ethnic segments as well as rebuild common sense in the broader spectrum of the political system.

Peterson has written the popular book, “From Rage to Responsibility.” He’s appeared on numerous radio / TV talk shows. He has hosted his own airwaves and is a sought-after speaker of note.

Thank God, there’s another Jesse than JJ. May JJ fade out into the quick sunset over winter’s evening skies (but don’t bet your soul on it!) as the likes of Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson ride into the fore—now and evermore. Amen. -

Bush plans to dispatch Michael Powell, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, and Roel Campos, commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission, to address Jackson's sixth Annual Rainbow/PUSH Wall Street Project on Thursday.

,,,,,,

Because the man the Bush administration is reaching out to is none other than Rev. Jesse Jackson, whose record for strong-arming corporations with threats of boycotts has earned him a reputation as a shakedown artist who's more interested in feathering his own nest than helping black America.

Still, Bush plans to dispatch Michael Powell, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, and Roel Campos, commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission, to address Jackson's sixth Annual Rainbow/PUSH Wall Street Project on Thursday.

"This administration's plan to send officials to meet with a discredited 'civil rights leader' is shameful," Peterson complained over the weekend. "In the past, Jackson has called President Bush an 'illegitimate' president and has compared the Bush administration to terrorists. The administration is validating Jackson, and they're sending the wrong message to the American people."

Peterson added that "Jackson has proven himself to be a man of poor character and a self-serving thug," citing Jackson's love child imbroglio in 2000 and reports that he has misused funds from his nonprofit organizations.

Peterson himself is suing members of Jackson's entourage, whom he says assaulted him during an altercation at a Los Angeles business meeting two years ago.

He's also the a sponsor of the "National Day of Repudiation of Jesse Jackson," which he'll commemorate for the fourth year in a row on Monday in Los Angeles, just four days after the Jackson conclave in New York.

Chairman Powell and Commissioner Campos will undoubtedly be too worn out from paying homage to Rev. Jackson to attend.

The last couple of times I've seen Jessie on TV, such as on Hannity & Colmes, his voice has been slurred and virtually incoherant. It made me wonder if he's not getting Alzheimers or something. Agree with him or not (NOT!) he used to be very well spoken and articulate - now he sounds like Muhammed Ali.
