LIEBERMAN: MAJOR LIBERAL ABORTION ENTHUSIAST CANDIDATE
J. Grant Swank, Jr., POB 1984, Windham ME 04062
Pastor, New Hope Church, Windham ME
The Human Rights Commission gave Joe Lieberman 100% on his voting record in the 106th Congress while the American Conservative Union gave him 0%.
That should tell us something!
Lieberman was born in Stamford, Connecticut, on February 24, 1942, and attended public schools there. He received in 1964 a BA from Yale College and in 1967 a law degree from Yale Law School.
With his wife, Hadassah, and four children - Matthew, Rebecca, Ethan, Hana - he lives in New Haven.
Lieberman, quintessential political liberal, was elected to the US Senate in 1988. In 2000, he was elected to a third term. In the last presidential election, he ran as Veep candidate alongside Al Gore.
Lieberman has served on various Congressional committees: Governmental Affairs, Environment and Public Works, Clean Air, Wetlands and Private Property, and Armed Services.
In the Senate, Lieberman voted YES on
. Supporting Roe v Wade right to abortion,*
. Safeguarding access to abortion clinics,*
. Opposing requiring parental notice for minors' abortions,*
. Allowing abortion counseling at federally-funded clinics,*
. Allowing federal abortion funding,*
. Requiring background checks on sales at gun shows,
. Approving five-day waiting period for handgun purchases, and
. Banning certain semiautomatic assault weapons.
He voted NO on
. Removing President Clinton - Article I, grand jury perjury,
. Removing President Clinton - Article II, obstruction of justice,
. Banning "partial-birth" abortions,*
. Prohibiting same-sex military barracks and basic training,
. Banning human cloning,
. Approving constitutional amendment prohibiting flag burning, and
. Confirming Clarence Thomas to Supreme Court.
For conservatives, the above is exceptionally significant, even when considering Lieberman's official web site's delineation of various supports he has given to trade, education, tax cuts and such. ________________________________
