[history]
WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House's lead salesman to Congress for the president's economic plan played down opposition from Senate Republicans, saying Sunday that the proposal is not fully understood.
The $674 billion plan would abolish federal taxes on stock dividends, speed up promised income tax cuts and send rebate checks to 34 million low- and middle-income parents. The 10-year package, all but $4 billion of it for cutting taxes, goes to Congress amid rising government deficits and as Democrats gear up to challenge President Bush's re-election bid.

While I agree with the tax cut GWB has proposed, I wish that payroll taxes (on both employee/employer) would be cut. I am crazy for thinking this?

The payroll tax is the worst thing in the feds inventory of tricks. These guys run around talking about how tax cuts benefit the rich, but look at what they're in fact doing to the less wealthy members of our Society.
15%(+/-)of total payroll up to far more than the average annual salary goes to the feds, with no deductions, no exemptions, no nothing. And it falls squarely on the backs of folks with lower income. All to fund a Ponzi scheme that's bound to fail in the forseeable future.
Yessir, gove us your money and we'll be sure to put it in the right place...
Yeah, right...

No you are not, but if you and your fellow malcontent, Beenliedtoo, would support a reduction in both the payroll tax and dividend tax, then you all may get somewhere, but IMHO, that is a place you all do not want to go.
The place you two want to be in is sniping from the outskirts, so you can be "independent" from all that jazz of the machinations of current American politics.
You all can flagellate yourselves about how "independent" you all are, but I'd rather be on the Bush side rather than the Daschle/Clinton side.
Life is a time when someone has to make decisions. You all IMHO seem to think that life is one big indecision.

Why do you say that?
I fail to understand why wanting more tax cuts is a bad thing.

Uh dude, I did read your original post and it was nothing more than a smokescreen, IMHO.
What is it dude? Would you rather like to see a payroll tax cut or a the tax on dividends eliminated. Sorry to intrude into your perfect world of indecision, but there is a real world place called the US Senate where these things are debated(actually demagouged by the democrats).
Like I stated before I am on President Bush's side, which side are you on?
No one will castrate you if you are on the Daschle/Clinton side on FR, although I myself would be wary if you crossed Hillary in an out of the way hallway in the Senate office building.

Do you think the payroll tax,as it currently is, is OK? You can't talk about the tax in a vacuum without discussing the benefit side of the equation. The tax should be changed so that a certain percentage is privatized into individual savings accounts. Privatize the whole things as far as Im concerned. Any payroll tax cuts must be linked to social security reform.
To: Karsus
nope...its time to abolish the payroll tax...
To: Dane
Cut BOTH. Let me invest my money for retirement.
I am on the GOP's side. And before you say that no one will castrate you if I say something about Daschle I must tell you that you are wrong. I have been told by posters on FR that they wish to have me killed.

Why link it to SS reform? I thought the goal of the GOP was to get goverment out of our lives as much as possible? Who is the goverment to say what I do with my money?
