A man was arrested at Pittsburgh Intl. Airport this afternoon for having a gun in his checked luggage. Here's the story:

PITTSBURGH -- A traveler at Pittsburgh International Airport was arrested after a fully loaded gun was found in one of his bags Friday afternoon, WTAE's Sheldon Ingram reported.

The 29-year-old suspect is from Export, Westmoreland County. Police said he checked a piece of luggage that contained a .22-caliber handgun, but he did not declare the weapon. The gun was detected after the bag was checked at the ticketing level, police said. The suspect was not carrying the weapon when he passed the security checkpoint, police said.

Allegheny County police Sgt. Robert Clark said the suspect initially denied having the gun when authorities questioned him about it, then later said he forgot packing it.

The man was being held at the airport Friday evening. Federal authorities were on their way to question him. Police told Ingram that the suspect will be charged under a county ordinance that prohibits firearms on airport premises. source.

Interesting. I thought you could put a gun on checked bags? For safety's sake, it's not wise to transport a loaded gun on a plane though, imho...
