Have you read about his fight for civil rights of Black Americans? His fight against the KKK.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Gary L. Bauer, Chairman of the Campaign for Working Families, called for Senate Democrats to stop their hijacking of the nomination of Federal District Judge Charles Pickering. "The 'Borking' of Judge Pickering is simply unconscionable," Bauer said.

The former presidential candidate made the following statement: "Senate Democrats are so desperate to protect the liberal stranglehold over the federal judiciary that they are willing to slander an honorable man. But don't take my word for it. Even the Washington Post, not exactly know for its conservative views, said in its own editorial, '…the attack on Judge Pickering has become an ugly affair.' The Post went on to call the racial accusations against Judge Pickering, 'particularly unfair,' and ended by saying that the character assassination of Judge Pickering by Senate Democrats was '…the latest example of the degradation of the confirmation process.'

"The fact is Judge Pickering is supported by many African-American civil rights leaders in Mississippi - the people who know him best. Supporters of his confirmation include Charles Evers, brother of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers, Michael Moore, the Democratic Attorney General of Mississippi, and Democrat Frank Hunger, Al Gore's brother-in-law.

"To slander a man as 'racially insensitive' who in Mississippi in the 1960s, testified against a leader of the KKK, who sent his children to public schools during the height of the desegregation battles, and who has worked to increase investment in the African-American community, is preposterous.

"Furthermore, Judge Pickering was unanimously confirmed to his current federal court position in 1990. Four senators currently on the Judiciary Committee, Senators Leahy, Kennedy, Biden, and Kohl, voiced no concerns about Judge Pickering in 1990. Their current hypocrisy in opposing Judge Pickering is nothing more than the callous political calculations of petty partisans at its worst.

"If we allow these disgusting tactics to prevail, Judge Pickering's accusers will be emboldened and future nominees will be viciously slandered and unfairly savaged. We must not allow the 'politics of personal destruction' to hijack the confirmation process. I urge Senate Republicans to force a floor vote using every procedural method at their disposal."

"And he still didn't have the sense to keep his mouth shut and not embarass the entire Republican Party."

...And every appearance he made after the story broke, he cravenly offered to axe more and more Republican party principles for the Dem race baiters' pleasure...and he rolled over on Pickering...and he said the government of his state was corrupt...and seemed to say the whole south is still racist...

Tuesday, Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Massachusetts, promised that the Democrats would "use every tool in our arsenal to ensure that his nomination is rejected again this year."

Does that mean you're going to use your Oldsmobile again, Teddy?

There are no more actual filabusters, per se, you just announce that you're gonna have one, then you force the cloture vote...

Exactly. It's time for the Senate Majority Leader to call the democRATs' bluff on these filibusters and force them to actually do it. No cloture. Just watch them make real jackasses out of themselves on the national stage.

Then, when they're exhausted and the great American public is really po'd at them, attack!

Republican Senators will be surprised at how far a little backbone can go!

Just think how disasterous it would be to have Constitutionalists interpreting the Constitution! I mean, the Constitution might actually effect the outcome of cases!

A little like Christian fundamentalists "interpreting" the Bible? Or Muslim fundamentalists "interpreting" the Quran?

I don't know if I agree with your analogy, but certainly get the gist. Liberal judges have caused a breakdown in our rule of law. Getting rid of them, replacing them with genuinely law abiding judges will improve our society by leaps and bounds. Every single judge matters. And no one knows this better than the communist liberal left.

Dear President Bush,
With the Surpeme Court session getting ready to close, it may well be time for perhaps the most important domestic decision of your presidency: the appointment of a Supreme Court Justice(s). The main reason why I supported you in 2000 and why I wanted Daschle out of power in 02 (and 04) has to do with the courts. I want America courts to interpret law, not write law. During your presidential campaign you said Thomas and Scalia were your two model justices. Those are excellent models. The High Court needs more like them. Clarence Thomas recently said to students that the tough cases were when what he wanted to do was different from what the law said. And he goes by the law. This should be a model philosophy for our justices. Your father, President Bush lost his reelection campaign for 3 main reasosn, as far as I can see. 1. he broke the no new taxes pledge 2. David Souter 3. Clinton convinced people we were in a Bush recession (which we had already come out of by the time Clinton was getting sworn in)

I urge you to learn from all three of these: 1. on taxes, you're doing great. Awesome job on the tax cut. 2. good job so far on judicial appointments. I want to see more of a fight for Estrada, Owen, and Pickering, but I commend you on your nominations. 3. by staying engaged in the economic debate you'll serve yourself well

I have been thoroughly impressed with your handling of al Queida, Iraq, and terrorism. You have inspired confidence and have shown great leadership.

But I want to remind you that your Supreme Court pick(s) will be with us LONG after you have departed office. I urge you to avoid the tempation to find a "compromise" pick. Go for a Scalia or Thomas. Don't go for an O'Connor or Kennedy. To be specific, get someone who is pro-life. Roe v Wade is one of the worst court decisions I know of, and it's the perfect example of unrestrained judicial power.

I know the temptation will be tremendous on you to nominate a moderate. But remember who your true supporters are. I am not a important leader or politician. I am "simply" a citizen who has been an enthusiatic supporter of you. I am willing to accept compromise in many areas of government but I will watch your Court nomiantions extremely closely. What the Senate Dems are doing right now is disgusting, but as the President you have the bully pulpit to stop it. Democrats will back down if you turn up serious heat on them.

Moreover, I think public opinion is shifting towards the pro-life position. Dems will want you to nominate a moderate, but almost all will vote against you anyways. Pro-choice Repubs will likely still vote for you if you nominate a Scalia, after all, you campaigned on it. So Mr. President, I urge you to stick with your campaign statements and nominate justices who believe in judicial restraint, like Scalia and Thomas.

Happy Memorial Day and may God bless you and your family.
