There are some people who seem to think that some folks are ENTITLED to earn 50K or more a year.

Quite frankly, I don't like that attitude, be it from folks who want a welfare handout, or if its someone who wants to keep the buggy-whip makers employed.

Please read post #54, then check your assertion that all stock is owned by the "rich and powerful." If CNN says otherwise, one must figure that they tried to find a way to slant the figures to support your assertion, but could not.

So, give up on your assertion that only the rich and powerful receive dividends, even CNN has. (It makes you look silly.)

And all those Americans are not a drag on the nation instead of contributing..so it is pay me now or pay me later

Resounding with some, but enough, of the public is the job of politicians. Given the dems class warfare rhetoric, how could it be possible that ANY economic plan could resound with everyone.

The only questions are: 1) is it politically feasible? Yes. We have a republican congress and the investor class is 68% of the public; and 2) Will it help the economy. Probably. If it does that, and the war on terror continues to go well, all the class warfare BS will be irrelevant--completely irrelevant--come 2004.

The alternatives are to propose a dem style stimulus package or to do nothing. The dem style package would give 'targeted' money away to favored groups and do nothing to stimulate the economy--thereby tanking the republican chances in 2004. Do nothing runs the same political and economic risk, but at least without the giveaway. If W is going to do something, he should at least propose something that has a chance of benefitting the country, which I believe he has done.

Pick at the details if you want. But this is a solid package. The elimination of dividend taxation is huge and will do wonders for the market and the economy.

By bringing up the absolute need for Congressional SPENDING discipline today, President Bush can NOW rail about the LACK of discipline that will lead to higher deficits. It was a brilliant speech, imo.

If you grew up in this great free and wealthy nation of America and have only aquired a skill set that can be outdone by a poor illiterate Mexican for a dollar a day, you haven’t really applied yourself very hard.

So true..... Momof7 keeps talking about the mfg jobs etc, but the true is that many of those jobs are done by computerization, etc. now. But the skilled jobs are still there for those that want to learn a trade such as, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, etc.

The society today uses more and more of the ever expanding convenience items to which someone must provide, sell, maintain, install, etc. Things change and most will adapt and move forward while others sit around and wish and bitch for the good old days.....

The President's plan would also bring middle-income families additional relief by speeding up three other tax reductions promised in 2001. It would:

1. Reduce the marriage penalty this year, instead of waiting until 2009. An estimated 46 million married couples would benefit under the President's plan.

2. Raise the child tax credit from $600 to $1,000 per child this year, instead of in 2010. That would amount to a $400 increase per child, and checks would be issued in that amount this year to help parents across America. An estimated 34 million families with children would benefit under the President's plan.

3. Move several million working Americans into the lowest tax bracket of 10 percent now instead of waiting until 2008.

Wealth is created, and the people of the U.S. are creating wealth faster than the population growth. Only a very few are wealthy enough that their wealth is sustained without effort from generation to generation, and so most wealthy are first-gen, and in large enough numbers that their wealth dwarfs those who have inherited theirs.

Low skill jobs leaving has two main effects: it frees Americans from being mules working in textile mills or whatever, and it makes basic commodities more affordable (which is effectively a pay increase). Think about what you could buy in the glory-days you dream of, and compare it to what you can buy now with the same typical income - then doesn't even compare to now except perhaps in the area of real-estate (which stays here).

The President has it right. Businesses are over-regulated, overtaxed, and the present-day lawsuit culture is imposing increasing costs. Costs that WE THE PEOPLE pay for as consumers.

The richest 1% and corporations pay a lot of our taxes, and they get abuse like crazy from virtually all of the Democrats and even call themselves conservative. And then people are surprised when they decide they have had enough of this and decide to go to a less hostile business climate?

it always amazes me that people complain about getting THEIR MONEY BACK!!!!!!!!

liberals actually enjoy being taxed. they base things on how they feel. if they are rich, they feel guilty. they don't want to actually help anyone physically by donating time, just offer a band aid and enslave those that they give their change to. if they are poor, they get money from taxes. only other libs are women and that is because of "choice."

also, since when does a handout to the bottom 20% create a job? oh thats right, need more government workers to dole it out.

This statement is so profoundly wrong it is almost funny. I can name many products produced here and exported. How about corn? How about movies? Golf clubs and grips are produced in America, including Golf Pride Grips right down the road from me in Pinehurst NC. They are exported all over the world. The list is long.

You might say, Phantom Lord, Movies, golf grips?!?! Big deal, who cares? Well an export is an export in terms of value, regardless of what the physical object is.

The middle class USED to eat out and buy boats but our new world order does not allow that anymore

I would classify my wife and I as "middle class". On the lower end of Middle Class at that. We eat out all the time. True, we have never bought a boat. Though we don't have the time nor the need for one. I prefer to spend my weekend on the golf course instead of on the water. Can only do one hobby at a time and mine is golf. And golf can be just as expensive as boating when you add up the cost of the clubs, greens fees, balls, lessons, tees, range time, etc... Not a cheap hobby, yet millions of middle class Americans enjoy it.

The other day, Rush summarized it so siccinctly: Conservatives want to improve things, Liberals want to feel good. When a liberal sees a hungry, homeless fellow, he/she says, "let's give him a hamburger -- there, ain't I wonderful?" A conservative says, "let's improve this guy's life -- get him cleaned up, get him a job, get him out of the street." A LOT more work, but in the long run more effective. The liberal holds him down by giving him a hamburger every day -- who needs to clean up and work when I've got a free burger every day?" Very little work for the liberal, they get a minumum of one "ain't I wonderful" feeling a day, and the guy dies stays a wretch on the street forever (or until he dies a probably painful death).

So who is the "bad guy" here?

I know I am preaching to the chior here, but it was such a wonderful synopsis it bears repeating over and over and over.
