SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey threw a cup of ice water over his head and splashed a child in the first quarter of the NFC playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The emotional Shockey, who often alienates opposing fans and players by his demonstrative nature, was being heckled by fans at the time. Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon said no one was hurt, and the rookie tight end was not restrained by security.
It happened shortly after Shockey thought linebacker Julian Peterson had held him on an incomplete third-down pass.
"I think it was an act of frustration," Hanlon said.
The boy was given a football by the Giants.
I would say that Julian Peterson got a few shots in on him yesterday. Go Niners!
A$$h*les and gay bayers..
..what a combo. It's a wonder either team won.
Oh, I forgot, it's the playoffs. Someone HAD to win.
Unfortunately I "gots" no hound in dis hunt..my feckless Redskins pooped out early.
The first is that big-ego immature players from both teams need to be cut from their teams regardless of their athletic ability. Terrel Owens forearm to the back of that Giants receiver was inexcusable. The Giants inability to have any self control whatsoever is what lost the game for them.
The second second issue is the fact that these people hold no respect for anything, including football. Professional football has become a joke. Running more Charity spot commercials profiling NFL players aint gonna help either. Much like the few hundred commercials yesterday for stock brokers who made me feel better about the few billions they stole from you and me. Pathetic..............
Sound like fans of Univ of Miami are in the same league.
I agree. Shockey's a ass, but this is a complete non-story.
I wonder how many kids had beer dumped on them during the game, intentionally or unintentionally, yesterday?
Waaahhhhh. The thieves, rapists, drug dealers, etc. that frequented Valley Ranch have pretty much all been driven out of town at this point. Parcells will turn this team around and then the anti-cowboy folks will be blaming the refs when Parcells coaches the Cowboys back into the Super Bowl.
Shockey is the nephew of a friend of mine. According to her he is one of those who does all his "trash talking" on the field.
Four years ago this kid (and he is still a kid) was playing wide-receiver for Ada, OK, high school where he held the all time Oklahoma H.S. record for catches. He couldn't get a scholarship out of high school and went to a jr. college in OK where after one year everybody was offering him a scholarship.
He went to Miami because they hadn't turned him down before. OU and Texas A&M are two I remember who turned him down. He was All-American on two National Champions and went pro a year early.
He might be "Cocky Shockey" on the field but just remember he's going to "catch it" from Momma and the aunt when he gets off. His antics are to fire himself up and he thinks he should catch everything thrown his way. He's his own worst critic.
His first day in training camp he got into a fight with Tiki Barber in the dining hall and the mother and aunt discussed "going up there to straighten him out." It's funny to watch because they are so proud of him they could pop on the one hand and get so mad at him they could kill him on the other.
I can't wait to get the latest up-close and personnal report on Jeremy Shockey.
I think professional football players are tested for steroids. Steroids are a baseball thing.
When my 10 year old asks me why is it cool to drink beer after watching all the beer commercials, Child abuse by a cup of water OVER THE HEAD that "struck a child" is not even close.
Your kids watch Hockey?
I hope the kid has dried off.
aw come on now...
come to think of it,
yer right..'nuff said
If that had happened in North Carolina, the kid's parents could have gone to a magistrate and sworn out an arrest for "assault" against Shockey. Then they could have filed a civil lawsuit against him, and probably received a settlement from the Giants' insurance company. How do you think John Edwards made his money?
Actually, the fight was with Giant Linebacker Brandon Short. The Giants have a tradition of rookies singing there school songs for the whole team and Short was harassing Shockey, telling him to had do it. When Shockey finally rose to sing, he said introduced himself, stated his signing bonus and said this song is for B. Short. Then they had a rumble in the dining hall. He's very cocky, but he backs up his big talk. He was the only rookie to make the Pro Bowl this year.
