Carjackers Surprised By Victim With Gun

A couple of would-be carjackers got more than they bargained for in South Nashville. Their victim had a gun of his own.

It happened at the Golden Gallon convenience store on Haywood Lane. Billy J. Brown had been inside to get a snack. When he climbed back in his car, one of the carjackers jumped in the seat behind them and told Brown to drive.

That's when Brown pulled out his own gun, and shot and killed the carjacker. The other carjacker tried to run away, but police later caught him.

"He came back here to police headquarters and during the interview, he gave statements to the effect he and his friend were out, and robbery was one of the topics they were looking into," said Detective Todd Watson of Metro Police. "The one suspect that was shot was wanting to get money to bail out a friend or a relative."

Brown wasn't charged although the District Attorney's office will likely review the case. Brown is a former officer with the Tennessee Defense Force. He also ran for the 59th District seat in the state House of Representatives this past November.

Junior is going to have to celebrate New Year's Eve in jail after all.

Sorry. Junior'll be spending New Years' Day with his family, thank you very much.

The bra holster sounds like a gimmick but I loved the article. I didn't think about women's nails or jewelry.

My son was the one who started the research on this and we went to Gunsite together. There was a short statured lady there that had a lot of trouble with her holster until they rigged her up with a thigh holster. Again, it was a waste of her time but she learned enough from the class that she could rig something later.

Don't forget an important point. Do your best to keep the same arrangement at all times. It won't help to fumble for a gun in a shoulder holster only to discover that it's in the purse or on the belt. Try to keep your gun in the same position under all circumstances.

As far as women's hands are concerned, a lot of guns have a "melted" look to them so the sharp edges are taken off. The person who invented that idea should be shot. The only areas that should be de-horned are the places that give the shooter trouble like the bells and whistles. There's not reason to take a beautiful new gun and turn it into something that looks like a relic that was sandblasted.

The only change I made to my S&W .38SPL after my visit with the teacher at the gunshop was to remove the rubber handgrip I had used for target practice and replace it with the original wooden grip, for easier withdrawl from my purse. Like the man said, will it matter in the least to me if my hand hurts a little bit after I've just had to shoot someone? The important thing is to be able to get the piece out in time, and the wooden grip is not only smaller, it's smooth. Since this is now my permanent carry I will always practice with the set-up as is, target shooting with the wooden grip.

You guys are forever talking about sigs and glocks, but I can't work the slides on those models. I like my revolver - though I confess that the ease of reloading a magazine is far superior to speed-loaders for my .38. It was fascinating to watch the gunshop owner demonstrate his expertise with speed-loaders. I need a lot more practice with those.

It's a first year Disco. I owned some older Series (Rat Patrol) models before.

I would like to trade it for an imported Series model but it's so old now it's not worth much.

The Defender models have held their value very very well.

They are a pain in the arse and not cheap to repair but for off road.....I would take them over a Hummer. A Hummer really shines articulating and thru rocky terrain but for deep woods mud ..they are a bit bulky and heavy.

Happy New Year!

I've jacked up a few stuck vehicles before too.....my success rate was not too good.

Yes ...an angry wife is not a good thing, I have more familiarity with that than I care to admit.

Happy New Year!

It's possible to load a semi by pushing the front of the slide on a table of something and open it up that way. When you're dry, the slide is locked back anyway. All you do to close would be to hit the slide stop.

I have to commend you for using and learning a revolver. I never gave myself a chance. A friend loves revolvers and he calls autos, Bottom Feeders.

You have mail.

Very good quote. I'll have to search out that text. The TID was originally designed I believe to be added to a weapons mounted light to keep the slide of said pistol from being pushed out of battery in a CQB situation "alledgedly".

I use it as I carry a surefire tac light anyway. You right about the price but try and find a policeman or a shop that has one and see what light is produced from such a small package. It is nothing less than one more option to consider for each individuals situation IMO.

I have one of the little ITT 160 Night Vision Monoculars that I use if my pups start growling. Use it to search the property for the source of their concern. I figure it is better than using a light to let someone know where "you" are . Travis brought that key education to light :o) for me. Your quote from the wisdom text is worthy. The surefire light is just one option.

Stay Safe !!

I had plenty of motivation.

Your tales of Tennessee make me miss the place. The only reason I left was to continue my service with the company.

Happy New Year to you and your's.

If this had happened in NYC (aka/ Liberal Loony Land), the carjack victim would be dead. In NYC, only criminals are allowed to own and carry handguns. The rest of us are sheeple to the slaughter.

Good guy 1, bad guy 0

This is good and well. the question in my mind is how many Tennesseans have these credentials "Brown is a former officer with the Tennessee Defense Force. He also ran for the 59th District seat in the state House of Representatives this past November." to obtain a license to carry?

Tennessee changed to a "Shall Issue" CCW state.
Packing.org has the states listed and I keep a map of the CCW states on my hard drive. It gives me a quick access to who lives in a CCW state.

One thing I don't understand is Kansas has a Second Amemdment in their state constitution. What are those people waiting for?

Bravo Zulu! Send it in to the NRA's Guardian magazine. They publish a monthly column of citizens protecting themselves and saving lives, not only their own. The main stream press will not ever tell anyone this....God Bless Billy Brown and I'm glad he's still with us.....

Bottom Feeders.

That's cute, but since the same could be said of my carbine, tell him I resemble that remark!

OK, I will. The reason fiveshooter likes revolvers is he enjoys shooting 44 mags, 454 Casulls, 475 Limbuaghs and a .500 Limbaugh. I think he's on that web site I sent you.

As pointed out by others, Tennessee is not a hard state to get a carry permit. I do wonder, however, if Brown's credentials as a former officer may have given him more leeway than what would be normally given other permit-holders.
