In-law MISSING, has alzheimers

Posted on 12/27/2002 6:26:00 PM PST by 4wurdobsrver

Hello all freepers, Im writing this post to ask for prayers. My wife flew back to Dearborn Hts. Michigan to spend the holidays with her mother. Just 1 hour ago my wife called me to tell that her mother has been missing since ten o'clock this morning. This would not be so alarming if she did not have alzheimers. The police have been notified and said they would look for her. But it is so very cold out right now and my wife says her mother always goes out very lightly dressed. Another worry is her mother took her car ( mother-in-laws car). She is so disoriented in her mind that she NEVER drives anymore. There has a half of a tank of gas in the car. One other point, Im in California, they are in Michigan. Im so worried right now that Im not even sure if this is going to make sense to you people. PLEASE, pray for her. People in Dearborne Hts. and Dearborn Michigan, be on the look out for a black 1990 Dodge Dynasty, license plate #DLU624 4 door sedan. The mother-in-law is 5'3" tall, slight build, light color hair, blue eyes and very nice person.Prayers please are greatly needed. Thanks in advance. And people in the area, please go out and have a look, you never know. Thanks again....Jim

Heavenly Father,

You know when the sparrow falls, you number the hairs on our heads. You know where this lost lamb is. Please protect her and bring her safely home.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen.

Oh, man. Been there, done that. I hope the police will keep a lookout for your mother in law's car. Perhaps local radio stations would help?

I'll keep you guys in my prayers. Alzheimer's is such a nasty disease.

A friend of mine had this happen and they found that she had gone (in her case walked) back to her old residence and was sitting on the porch outside. Anyway, you might keep an extra eye out on locations she went to in her past. Good luck.

Have them look close by within 3 to 10 houses from where she lives. There was a problem like this where I live and they found the missing person behind the a house, 2 houses away. After searching everywhere else.

My mother passed away with Alzheimer's disease and this happened a couple of times when she was in a care center. The last time, she walked several miles across many busy streets of Denver before they found her about 5 hours later. At that point, I had to make the decision to put her in a locked up section for her protection. She had always been afraid to cross a street before that time, so I always thought it was safe to not put her in a secured section. After her multi mile journey, it made this choice a necessity.

My thoughts are with you and your family. I know it is trying, but have faith.

TC

What about parking lots of stores or restaraunts she frequents? She may have been able to go somewhere then forget how to get home. We have a family member that this happened to. She may feel too embarrassed to ask for help right away.

After reading the posts here, it seems there are some expert suggestions from people who understand this disease first hand. My prayers are added that she is found safe and soon.

SHE HAS BEEN FOUND!!!!Thankyou all so much for the prayers. She was found 25 miles from home in a city named Woodhaven. The police found her at about 11 o'clock est. They found her parked in a parking lot at a bank in Woodhaven, Mi. From what my wife tells me this is about 25 miles away from her home in Dearborn Hts. My wife hasnt been home to see her in about 10 years. The last time we were there she was perfectly ok in her mind. About a year ago my wife noticed that her mother was repeating herself and forgetting things alot in their phone conversations. But we didnt understand how much worse she had become until this trip back there and to see her in person. We are going to sell our house here in California and move back there to be near her now. I am already retired and my wife is retiring very soon, so it wont be that big of a deal. Thanks again for all prayers and support. You'll never know how much they are appreciated. Or do you? I believe you do come to think of it. What a relief. sighhhhhhhhh..Jim
