This guy was so cool. Said he would tithe the first 10 percent! No luck about it. He said he was "blessed."
FYI

...which entitles him to a one-time payment of $170 million, or $111,681.349 after taxes. West Virginia sure has high tax rates!

His daughter has just overcome cancer, his wife wants to travel to Israel and his granddaughter seems to be his best friend. It sounds like a fairytale come true.

When he returned to the store he gave one of the employees a $100 tip. Is it just me...or does this just sound wrong?
To: Salvation
He wasn't 'blessed'. (In my opinion) He was lucky. If people really are being 'blessed' than I can think of 314 million more deserving people in the world than this cowboy. It kills me when people who are already well off think that they're are receiving yet another blessing...a little egocentric if you ask me. He's probably a great guy, i'm jealous, and that's that.
To: Salvation
What, he forgot to thank all those people out there that paid their stupid tax so the jackpot could reach $300 million?
I've got no time for the lottery, and it's too damn bad there are enough stupid people out there to keep it running.
To: Salvation
Gee...dont any of you think its at least just a tad noteworthy that out of the 300+ million he walks with little more than 100+ million...
I frankly could care less who won what and how much...The real story is the chunk the State and Federal Goons are stealing...keep in mind that every single dollar was alread taxed when it was earned, and taxed again on by the lottery to the tune of around 50%
So in Fact...what was once 600 or so million dollars of taxed income gets taxed again to the tune of around 500 Million...
Meanwhile the media and freepers fawn over the event either ignoring or ignorant to the monumental theft of citizen money going on...

This guy said he was going to give $17 million to three different churches/pastors for a fund to help the poor.
And the libs say the rich are selfish. Jesse Jackson and Robert Byrd are probably ticked off because he isn't giving $34 million to the state government so it can be wasted on social programs.

Those huge jackpots are STUPID
They ought to have multiple winners when it goes over a million

Well, the "hate the lottery" folks showed up.
I'm wondering where the "all gamblers are sinner" crowd is.
To: Salvation
Lotteries are a disgrace, especially when run by government.
They erode the work ethic and serve to demoralize people.
And for government to foist them upon its own citizens, is a sign of demoralized leadership.
To: Salvation
But what about the $820 I spent on lottery tickets? Does this mean I'm not getting my money back?
I'm confused....
To: Salvation
It sounds nice that a Christian won all that money... until you ask, how much did he invest in lottery tickets? $100 reported here, and who knows how many other times -- and the truth about how much he spent on tickets WILL come out -- ? This isn't the best Christian example for poor people. Also the blessed givers do it anonymously. The answer to what he would do with it should have been that he couldn't say, and the directed donations done through a third party.
That being said (and yeah, I am VERY tempted to envy :-) at least it's good he donated it at all. I hope he is very very wise with those funds. Glory seeking through mammon will smother the spirit of Christ quicker than you can say thorns and thistles.
To: Salvation
Nice guy, seems very religious.
Maybe now he can afford some teeth that his $17 Million business couldn't afford??? Well, so much for the W. Virginia stereotype.
