Sources on Capitol Hill say that Incoming Majority Leader Trent Lott of Mississippi has collected assurances from more than 20 Republican Senators that they will support him in a new election to determine whether Lott will remain as Senate Majority Leader.

'We have got well over 20 and are approaching 26,' says one Lott supporter.

Twenty Six votes ( out of 51 total GOP members) are required for Lott to keep his job.

"Have you stopped beating you wife?" implies that you beat your wife.

"Do you have brown hair?" does not imply that you have brown hair.

"Do you support a certain law or policy?" does not imply that you support that law or policy.

"Do you support federally mandated racial desgregation and federal anti-lynching and anti-poll-tax laws?" does not imply one answer or the other.

You could make an argument that "Don't you support federally mandated...?" implies your answer, but the question was not formulated in that way.

It still has not been answered, BTW.

Okay, okay - there's nothing at all racist about saying one wishes the segregationist Dixie-crat party had won the presidential election in 1948 - you know that and I know that - because we're so smart --- but you see there are millions and millions of Americans out there who Don't know that. Which is kind of a serious problem for a majority leader, not to mention for the party he leads.

Here is my apparently not-well-received paradigm;

Lott WAS simply being nice to an old man, a party leader who had been repeatedly RE ELECTED to his post faithfully for DECADES by his constituency. I guess you think the majority of folks who voted thurmond into office, time and time again were evil as well eh?

Lott will probably go bye bye. Then you can jeer and cheer, as your validation of the democrat strategy comes to bear on its next victim...

I have NO love for Lott. Said it repeatedly. I just don't like the validation and support racist democratic strategy is getting from this useless self imolation we have engaged AFTER the un eraseable fact of what Lott's mouth has uttered in the minds of many "race bait" takers here.

I point out again that even MANY prominent liberals do NOT think lott is racist, and believe he is EXACTLY what I have said... a guy who has foot in mouth disease, who slipped up in a very minor way, publicly... and THEY accept his apology and explanation on face value.

I have no doubt others would do a better job. I hope they will. I also expect that this "proceedure" will become a great favorite of the 'neobolshivists' of the left... as they seek to engage in a race war, in time for the next presidential elections.

Granting their heart's desire, will only encourage more of the same. That will probably make you feel better, right?
