What's wrong with you Americans? Have you all lost your mind? Do you think war is a game? Count first the millions of dead children and women your guns will leave behind and then go to war (see "Is War With Iraq Necessary? Arguments For And Against"). There is a God that looks down on us, no matter what you call him, and he isn't blind. Look after your own problems and then try to help other countries. |

I'm European and want to say what most Europeans think about possible war with Iraq. This war is stupid and not necessary! George Bush just wants the oil and more and more power; he doesn't care about the Iraqi people at all.

As a Canadian, I worry about how it would affect Canadian-American relations if we were to deny the request for troops. While the majority of Canadians support the war on terrorism, we are wary of how far America will go in its quest to be the world's policeman.

To bomb or not to bomb? I lived in Kuwait all my life, I was there during the Gulf War and I saw how Saddam treated everyone. My best friend's mother was murdered in front of my eyes because she was married to a Kuwaiti solider. I converted to Islam last year and I believe that Saddam is inhuman. I don't give a sh-- about him or that country even though I feel sorry for the innocent people killed.
However, isn't the main issue going after Osama bin Laden and his followers? They are the real danger just now. We have already seen the catastrophe that al Qaeda made on September 11. Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are still paying for the United States' help in the Gulf War. Why does the U.S. have to act like the UN all the time? Some economical matters do not have to do with you! I'm a 16-year-old American-Israeli girl living in Israel. Screw the whole Iraq thing right now. It won't help you if terrorists inside your country attack you. Take it from someone who lives in a country that experiences more terrorist attacks than the words "I know" are repeated in the Bill Withers song "Ain't No Sunshine." America has no security whatsoever in the country itself and she wants to start worrying about Iraq which will use whatever weapons they have against the U.S. whether they go to war or not. I was at Mount Rushmore this summer with my family and we were shocked to see no security around. I could have brought a mini-bomb in my bag and no one would have known. Those are things America should consider right now, not to mention installing security guards at schools and work places.

I am 20 years old and I am a United States Army infantryman, a protector of this nation's freedom. Everyone in the service gives up a part of their freedom to defend yours. We all go through enough, the last thing we need is to turn on MTV and see people tell us what we do is wrong. If we do go to Iraq, support us. We are doing it for America, not for personal gain or because we want to. Please support Bush and support your troops.

Anyone that says Iraq is innocent and Saddam Hussein isn't a threat must have been living in the same cave as Osama bin Laden for the past year. People need to put their political agendas behind the country's security. It makes me upset every time I see a demonstration at UC Berkeley or anywhere else in the Bay Area concerning military action in Iraq. They protest it, but don't offer a plan of action. Does anyone really think we could sit down and negotiate with Saddam? The man wants us dead, and that's no secret. I agree with the president I elected, we should attack them before it's too late. I don't want to be around if we don't take action and we are wrong.

This is mostly about oil. If Saddam Hussein was oppressing people in another nation that didn't share borders with Kuwait, one of the richest oil countries in the Middle East, President Bush wouldn't be so sure to press for military action. This is just an excuse to parade U.S. greedy economic interest as a great concern for national security.

Maybe on the surface trying to police the world might seem like a bad idea, but if we are not on top, if the good guys aren't in control, then who is? At least America has good intentions. I've heard a lot of talk about this war being based on oil. Well, for God's sake, if we can kill some terrorists, stop a country from being run by a madman, getting a crapload of oil to boot is just icing on the cake! I don't for a second condone war or the killing of innocent people, but the hard truth about it is if we don't respond now and destroy our enemies, they will only become stronger. The threat, whatever and however instituted, can only become more stealth and deadly by the minute.

Why didn't we finish the job back in the Gulf? Maybe if we would have shown a little bit more guts then September 11 would have never happened and people would be alive. I love my country, but we do make stupid mistakes every once an awhile and not finishing the job was one of them. I have family members who have already been to Afghanistan once this year and soon to be Iraq if these inspectors find something (see "Let The Inspections In Iraq Begin Again"). Mr. Blix, do your job so we do not have to deal with Saddam 10 years from now, once again.

I just saw your "Reasons for was with Iraq" piece, and the last point made was that Saddam Hussein used genocide on his own people (the Kurds) during the Iran-Iraq war of the late '80s. The report failed to mention, however, that the U.S. supported Iraq during the war and knew perfectly well that genocide was being committed by Saddam. Not only did the US support Iraq, we supplied him with weapons.

I have to laugh at your facts on Saddam Hussein (see "Who Is Saddam Hussein? A Closer Look"). You say after the Gulf War, his people did not rise against him like we thought they would. No, his people rose up against him but we were not there to back his people like we said we would. It might be helpful for you to do some research before you call your pieces "news."

To all the foreigners who are opposed to our attacking Iraq. We were attacked 15 months ago, that attack killed 3001 men woman and children. When we get done with those who did it, financed it, supported the attackers, and or supplied them, you and all will know that the price for attacking the USA is prohibitive. Expect Nuclear weapons! And remember the price for treading on us. Clinton is history, this President is neither a slut hunter or a man who bluffs.

And that should impress me why? Oh - yeah, I remember now - Europeans - haven't we saved your asses from the Germans twice in the last hundred years?
Ooh...my bad - Franziska is from Germany. I guess that makes it ok then.
