Another powerful storm is expected to hit Northern California on Thursday, the National Weather Service forecasts.

The upcoming storm will produce strong winds and significant rains and mountain snow.

Winds are forecast to increase along the coastal range late Wednesday night. Winds will continue to increase over the interior Thursday as the storm moves inland.

Hi Norm. : ) I was thinking of posting that pic (didn't see it that large though - wow), but, obviously didn't, so I'm glad you did. How's this one? : )

You know, I think that could be a great FR event. We could bi-itch slap a misguided enviro flake every Saturday night! One night it could be a Sierra Club chapter, the next it could be the next dope that decides to sit up in a Redwood tree for four months. We could even set up a celebrity slapfight, with Paul Erlich as the main event and maybe some nihilist has-been Hollywood celebrity like Dennis Weaver or Ed Begley Jr.

So to answer your question, yes, you can watch! :)

Surf's up-ping! : )

I heard today that some agency in DC voted Bruce Browns "Endless Summer" worthy of archival storage along with another 19 films. I'm getting my son the DVD version of "On any Sunday" by Brown. He was fourteen when I took him to see the original in 1971.

Last Thursday morning Eureka was 25 % of normal and all rivers were closed to fishing due to low flows. We now stand at 97 % and most rivers are now receding from flood stage.

At about 9:30 am we started having the predicted rain fall come down. (19 December)

Now at 11 am the wind has shifted around to the SE, and the rain is starting to really come down. When our wind shifts to the SE with a front coming in from the West, we can really get swamped with the rain.

The wine country is better prepared now that people realize the hundreds of millions spent the past 5 years on flood control haven't worked and probably will not work when we have massive rains, huge flows down creeks and rivers with large high tidal effects in Dec/Jan/Feb..

I was supposed to be testing a new Spey line this week and next week. They called Tuesday and said that the lines would be air expressed to me. I said to send them to the next person on the testing schedule as none of my rivers would be fishable until probably after New Year's.

Here is the latest radar image of this storm as it impacts us.

Why is it that these storms seem to hit at commute home time? Monday it took me 2 hours to drive the 23 miles home. I may have to stop for a pint tonight if that is the case again..

And I STILL have been unable to get a roofer out to look at our roof. We've had a leak since Friday. After Sunday night's storm, there were buckets of water on the floor in the breakfast nook. I've called roofers all week - everybody is too busy. We moved into this house in August. When I took the old curtains down from the window in the breakfast nook, I could see that there had been shoddy repairs done around the window - lots of spackle, and painted over. Now I know why - and it isn't from back-up rain gutters. We've already checked that out. It's a tile roof, and the tiles are intact, so there's something else going on. :(

PG& E had 51 power outages around Humbolt Bay after a vilolent short lived wind storm last night about midnite. 42,000 customers down out of 120,000. We haven't had much rain out of this storm. Our TVs spend a lot of time on the Weather Channel this time of year.

A tanker truck and trailer jack knifed on the venerable arched Fernbridge on the route to Ferndale. The trailer went in the river and the truck is hanging over the bridge. This bridge has survived huge floods and too many earthquakes that I care to recall. I don't know if it was a fuel truck or milk transport.

Thanks for the ping AP. I live across the street from Ocean Beach, so the weather around here is pretty dramatic. After a week of this, I feel like a seasoned veteran. I've got my candles, flashlights, crank radio, battery-operated lamp and lots of food! Bring on the blackouts!

Stay safe, your area is under another flash flood warning with the high tides and all the rivers trying to dump water.

The lower Sac went from a 6,500 ft per second measurement to over 64,000 ft in two days this week. So the Trinity and Klamath are probably really rolling down stream.

The Eel and Mad River systems got dumped on so they are rolling.

I was supposed to have received a newly introduced Spey Fly Line this week to use in some tests on the Rivers that I fish. I told the fellow who had arranged for me to be in the testing schedule to ship it at the end of the year at the earliest for my 1-2 week trial. I'm not going near any of these N. Kali Rivers until we have no rain for 5+ days and none is in the schedule.

The Yuba where I had planned to do most of my trials went from just under 500 feet per second to over 8,000. The Russian went from about 200 feet per second to over 60,000 at Guerneville. I had planned on testing the new lines below Guerneville.

That is a great place to fly fish for striped bass.

First you have to clear out all the illegal aliens who are fishing illegally (Russian to Hispanics with some Iraqi's thrown in). You just carry a loud speaker and holler INS Green Card Check as you approach the area you want to cast from. Then stand on a high rock away from the herd of illegals as they stampede out of your fishing area.
