Oklahoma Sen. Don Nickles -- a longtime Trent Lott rival who has called on fellow Republicans to consider ousting the embattled Mississippian as the Senate's GOP leader -- might have some explaining of his own to do about his membership in the men-only Burning Tree Club.
We hear that Senate Minority Whip Nickles, who announced Sunday that Lott's Strom Thurmond gaffe "may jeopardize his ability to enact our agenda and speak to all Americans," is a fixture at the prestigious Bethesda club that enforces Saudi-like rules when it comes to females: No women are allowed -- not as members, not even as guests.
The club's leadership is so committed to its 80-year policy of excluding women -- who are banned from the premises except during the annual spring cocktail party and by-appointment-only Christmas shopping in the pro shop -- that in the 1980s it was willing to forgo a multimillion-dollar tax break from Montgomery County to preserve its gender purity...

The guy hasn't even announced he's running for leader of the Senate Republicans and Lloyd Grove's liberal dirt-diggers find this???? Burning Tree is home to a bunch of geriatric males who have trouble going to the bathroom. And membership in this "exclusive" club is something of a disqualification? Every American outside the Beltway has got to be LHorHAO. We're about to go to war and all the media is worried about is a Senator who hobnobs with a bunch of old men who, rumor has it, shoot a round of golf in the buff?

Here you go folks. Like Trent Lott or not, pushing him out only spreads the causes of the "PC Police". The conservative agenda had done a great job holding political correctness" in place over the past two years. Now we have let it out of its cage and let it take over our lives once again. Thats what a big part of this crap is about.

So Cypress Hill and Pine Valley are now anti-PC as well?

Hasn't Burning Tree had some U. S. presidents as members over the years? I think I recall Ike playing there, maybe some others.

My thought also .. and if true .. all he is gonna do is tick off the exact people he needs to keep him as leader
Not a smart move if you ask me

Good question. My guess is neither. It's not a well-kept secret among Beltway reporters/commentators that Nickles is a scratch golfer who, in his time off, can be seen hitting the fairways at Congressional CC, Avenel, Chevy Chase and Burning Tree. Besides that with the "Masters" controversy still very much in the papers, the press has probably been waiting to let loose with this little tidbit of info irregardless of the Lott controversy...

Thats what a big part of this crap is about. Nickles isnt Lott. I would venture to say Nickles has at least one veterbre in his back to stand up to overly militant PC charges against a geriatric club that no chirck wants in anyways. Lotts pandering is the last straw and I want him out if he isnt going to advance a conservative agenda.

The pro at the time (Max Elbin) was a guy who had delivered groceries in my neighborhood during the early part of WWII. He eventually became President of the PGA.

Amen. Even in the Bethesda area, a hotbed of liberal PC gobbledeeygook, Burning Tree is treated as one big joke. And it's not like a U.S. Open is coming there anytime soon. The only clowns who might try and run with this turkey are the overweight hobbits at NOW.

Burning Tree Events
They have a "Lott" of ladies events. I suggest that they allow women to join but they have to qualify for membership by being current Hooters employees.

The RAT smear machine is going into high gear against the prospect of a real no-compromise conservative like Don Nickles leading the Senate. That just goes to show conservatives who their real champion is--Don Nickles. I'm sorry membership in some male only golf club doesn't equate to Lott's gaffe--not even close. Looks like the Commie lib RAT smearmeisters are going to have to try again.
