Former US president Bill Clinton has recorded a CD with legendary Italian actress Sophia Loren and the Swiss Romande Orchestra, Swiss news media reported yesterday.
For the project, which the report dubbed "top secret", Clinton and Loren reportedly read out a series of texts against a background of orchestral music directed by renowned US conductor Kent Nagano.
According to the Sunday editions of Dimanche.ch and SonntagsBlick the former head of state, who arrived in Geneva early on Saturday, agreed to participate in the project which was organised by Dutch record label Pentatone.
While his deputy, former vice-president Al Gore, often lampooned for what is sometimes seen as a stiff and humourless style, tried his hand at television comedy attempting to soften his image in advance of a possible run for the White House in 2004.
Gore appeared on the popular Saturday Night Live programme in a number of guises and in various skits, a few of which dealt with his failed bid for the US presidency in 2000.
In his opening monologue, he planted a two-minute long kiss on his wife Tipper, releasing her from liplock only after cast members used small stun guns to prod him into submission.
Appearances on television chat shows and comedy programmes have become part of US political life.

What a waste of plastic. Just think of all the AOL 8.0 offers they could have made with those CD blanks...

Ugh. Now I'll never be able to watch Sophia's old flicks again because this image will ruin them for me.

Clinton in 'top secret' project
By AP
GENEVA -- Former U.S. president Bill Clinton joined actress Sophia Loren this weekend to narrate a recording by a Swiss orchestra, newspapers said yesterday.
The weekly newspaper Dimanche said the recording project of the European company PentaTone was "top secret," but that Clinton and Loren read different passages as Kent Nagano conducted the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.
It appears to have been connected with a project announced in October by the Russian National Orchestra, which said Nagano would make a record of Tchaikovsky's Peter and the Wolf for PentaTone with Clinton, Loren and Mikhail Gorbachev as narrators.
Clinton, in Geneva about 24 hours before he left yesterday, also gave a speech on the search for peace in the Middle East, the newspaper said.
The Zurich-based weekly SonntagsBlick said it had learned Clinton would be the top guest at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, next month. He attended the annual Alpine gathering of government and business leaders three years ago when still president.

This must be part of the Swiss kick back for pardoning Mark Rich.
Didn't think Sophia was so desperate for media attention to be sided with scum like Bubba though.

Sophia Loren seems a bit too old for Slick... |

Not a waste for everybody. Billy paid 30'000 $ for his bulletproof hotelroom in Geneva. I assume some of it goes straight to the bottom line!

The CD begins with a reading of Green Eggs and Ham by James Earl Jones. This thing will probably sell about as good as a Do-it-yourself colonoscopy kit.

Peter and the Wolf Appropriate choice for Clinton (both the "Peter" and "the Wolf").
