If what Lott said is so despicable and unforgivable, Karl ought to be calling for Lott to resign from the Senate completely.Since when is it the White House's business who the senators elect to lead them?

If Rove is backing First then it's time to get solidly behind Nickols! Rove needs to be run out of DC if not out of the country, he's bent on destroying conservatives and replacing them with RINOS!
Exactly correct! It is imperative for us to spread the word among the conservative GOP grassroots about Frist's pro-abortion voting record. We have not suffered under a pro-abortion Republican Senate Leader in at least 20 years. If pro-abortion Sen. Frist were to take control of the Senate with Bush's blessing the entire pro-life agenda would continue to be torpedoed almost as effectively as it would under RAT leadership! I am very dissapointed that Rove and Bush are backing a pro-abortionist like Frist to replace pro-life Lott. I would much rather have Lott with all his faults than pro-abortion Frist. I cannot and will not support Frist for Senate Majority Leader. If Bush and Rove want to get this contraversy behind us, they are going to make it even worse with the conservative grassroots with Bill Frist. Lott is a far better conservative than Frist.

Lott may not be a racist. He may have changed his mind on segregation, but he did, DOCUMENTED FACT, support segregation in his earlier years. Frankly I don't care any longer.
If he remains, all legislation will be viewed through the "Race" prism in the future, and Bush will be hit with questions like these:
Excuse me, Mr. President - Your proposal to eliminate the double taxation of dividends will have virtually no stimulative effect on african american wage earners, is this an example of the racially inclusive nature of the republican party?
Excuse me, Mr. President - Since our armed forces have a larger percentage of minorities than the general public, your decision to embroil this nation into a controversial bloody war against the peaceful citizens of Iraq will have a deliterious impact on the african american community - is this an example of the racial policies of this administration? In that blacks can die for this country but you are opposed to them voting?
Sound farfetched? No, it should'nt. ABC, CBS, NBC, NYT, NPR, etc., are all drafting these questions right now. Bet on it.
Lott has to GO and Bush has to be seen pushing him out!

Of course the standards should be higher. But should the standards be established by race-baiters? Should those who have questionable history in race issues be the determiners of what's right or not?
No, but the existence of a double standard shouldn't be our excuse for lowering ours; we should hold the Democrats to a higher standard.
That we haven't is mostly our fault, and Senator Lott, ironically, is more culpable than most in that. I wonder why?
His remarks at Thurmond's party were beyond stupid, and his failure to get out in front of this early leave him no longer viable as Majority Leader. To an extent, the Dems have won this one. We need to cut our losses, regroup, and get the knives sharp for payback.

Great! So Frist is not only pro-abortion, he is also anti-Second Amendment, having been awarded a "D" by Gunowners of America for his opposition to our gun rights. One would expect to see a very different kind of leadership if he were at the helm instead of Lott. He would likely cave to the RATS on issues of importance to conservatives much more frequently than Lott ever has.

Rove is a political genius. We had best listen.
Very funny and hopefully sarcastic praise that got Bush to personally recruit partial birth abortionist and pro-gay leftwing extremist Dick Riorden for Governor of California, then abandon pro-life Bill Simon for dead in a race that could have otherwise been won, dooming several other Republicans running close races statewide to defeat, not to mention the Bush/Rove/Parsky enginneered stealth liberal takeover of the once proudly conservative California Republican Party. Now we hear Rove has gotten Bush to support pro-abortion Sen. Bill Frist. Oh yeah, let's all take a knee and bow to King Rove's latest attempt to seek out and destroy the few principled conservative leaders left in the Republican Party!

Karl Rove isn't stupid. He knows, that if it appears Sen.Lott was forced out by the Bush WH, it would be a huge political victory for the Democrats. I'm all for replacing Lott as GOP Senate leader, but not on the terms of the liberal establishment. I'm appalled at the spineless and weak kneed reaction that so many conservatives and Republicans have exhibited in the last week over the trumped up charges against Sen.Lott. If the GOP loses control of the Senate over this, it will be a dark day for all conservatives.

I hope your proud of the damage you are doing to the conservatives.

Yes, you are correct and I was not. I do hope that he retires in '06 and makes a lot of noise about it. Enough to shame the lifetimers into retiring too. I am skeptical that he will do so but... it's not impossible.

I have to ask, did you watch the celebration in it's entirety? I did and I must say in context with all the speakers I didn't see what everyone is up in arms about.
It's amazing that Bush and his administration has stated they would not want to be caught up in hypotheticals. This, I would say, is the mother of hypotheticals. No one knows how things would have turned out.
Yes we should hold the Dems to a higher standard, but my point is you're letting the Dems determine when your standards are in question. For example, is a vague statement worthy of punishment or the actual act?
I'm of the mind that the real issue is getting him for past ills than what supposedly was the problem at a birthday celebration.
We'll respectfully disagree on this one. I do not want Lott to be railroaded over a vague statement and become a trophy for the Left.

Rove is genius. Under no circumstances would he jettison majority status. If Rove backs Frist, or anyone else for ML, he'll be damn sure Lott doesn't resign seat.

Well if they hadn't planned on asking those kinds of questions, they will now. We really can be the left best strategizers. They probably get their best ammunition and talking points right here.

Voted YES on maintaining ban on Military Base Abortions. (Jun 2000)
Voted YES on banning partial birth abortions. (Oct 1999)
Voted YES on disallowing overseas military abortions. (May 1999)
These are from a search I did on "Frist on the Issues". Doesn't sound very pro-abortion to me.

I'm all for replacing Lott as GOP Senate leader, but not on the terms of the liberal establishment. My sentiments exactly. I've wanted to replace Lott for a long time now, but doing so as a result of Rat pressure is repugnant in the extreme, and replacing him with the likes of a Rino like Frist is the worst of all worlds. ...especially if Lott's departure means losing control of the Senate.
