1. 1964 Civil Rights Act was passed with Republican support, almost filibustered by Leftists. Gores father was one of those who was vehemently against it yet they escape judgment on their actions. It was passed against their vote.
2. If the same type of things were said/written about Byrd... how would the Leftists react? Why are you... selectively choosing our "candidate"?
3. Congress has worked with Lott for decades, why haven't they been exposed to consistent racial characteristics by Lott in the past?
4. Why has Thurmond remained silent?
5. What effects do Welfare and education have on segregation and racism? Until recent years which party has implemented reform on each? How did Lott vote?
6. Anyone recall Kennedy's one way conversations with ML King? When does it come time to "cleanse" for that?
7. Which party is being "cleansed"? How many of you... truly don't believe Lexus searches were run throughout last week? How far back was too far back during the Clinton administration? As many in our who were victims, what did the Leftists gain? What does it say to you... about today?
8. If you... are going to allow the Leftists (who assert they are free of segregation and racism) to publicly assault our party without demanding they look in their own mirror, what have you... accomplished?

Tell me how I defend this statement to friends I have that are black that I want to become Republicans? Trent Lott was talking to a sick, 100 year old man that has been a friend over a period of decades. Is it really so wrong to spout meaningless drivel which gives some comfort, and perhaps a smile to a dying man? Thurmond is a spent force, and has been for quite some time. His ideas are at least obsolete. So a few kind words hurt nothing.
There is another issue as well. At least Thurmond was honest about his position. A lot of candidates followed a similar path, but weren't explicit. Do we know what Thurmonds platform was in other areas? Can we compare and contrast it with that of other candidates? If not, how can we trully know which candidate would have been better for the country?

I love this site, but I frankly would worry about sending them here given the threads that popup with some frequency about how the Civil War was evil and about how we would have all been better off if we had left the South alone so that slavery could have died a 'natural' death rather than being abruptly stopped by the statist Yankees.

Tell me how I defend this statement to friends I have that are black that I want to become RepublicansIn 1911 Truman (who was 27) wrote to his future wife, Bess: "I think one man is just as good as another so long as he's honest and decent and not a nigger or a Chinaman. Uncle Will [probably Wfiliam Yount, the brother of Truman's mother] says that the Lord made a white man from dust, a nigger from mud, then He threw up what was left and it came down a Chinaman."
Truman continued: "[I] am strongly of the opinion Negroes ought to be in Africa, yellow men in Asia and white men in Europe and America."

>>>... some Freepers who formerly wanted Lott gone, now want him to stay because they are terrified very concerned that the libs might get some credit control of the Senate.
Again, having the Senate in the hands of Daschle and CO, doesn't seem to bother you, at all! This is pure race baiting on the part of the liberal establishment and you're falling for it, hook, line and sinker! Enough already!

This is a good point. We are dealing with more or less ideas from the Leftists and they're using them not only against Lott, but against our party. Rather than allowing the Leftist racial activists to lie/spin political points they are unable to grasp, and pin them on either our party or members therein, let's adjudicate the accuser(s) first.
We don't see/hear party Leftist affiliations in the media, only conservative. How would the nation react if they were made aware (in a footnote...) of any of these accusers racist pasts?
To: Peach
You can remind them that Lott was 7 years old at the time Thurmond ran for president, that he wasn't referring to the segregationist policies of the Dixicrat platform (read Democrat platform) but rather to Thurmond's strong policies of defense and immigration - both of which are affecting us today and are problems probably the problems that Lott was referring to. You can remind them that their own party has a former KKK member - Byrd. That Jesse Jackson is an anti semite who constantly urges African Americans to vote Democrat. You can remind them that Clinton gave the Presidential Medal of Honor to Sen. Fulbright - a segregationist and racist - and called Fulbright his "mentor". See my editorial below to the Washington Times regarding that little matter. There's more you could remind your friends of, I'm sure.BTTT

Right when his party and nation need him, Our party "needs" a racist?
He's too racist to be Majority Leader, but not racist enough to leave the Senate.
Have I got that right?

I'm not quite sure what you mean in your response. If you mean that I want Lott to resign from the Senate, youre absolutely wrong, that would be crazy. We have worked too hard to let the demons take away what we hav won. But I would like to see Senator Lott step down as the Senate majority Leader, and let Other very qualified Republican Senators(Frist, Nicholes,.....)take the leadership role for a change.
To: sinkspur
Have I got that right? Yes.
The people of Mississippi are entitled to elect a racist for Senator, if they want to. That does not mean the nation has to to put up with a racist as their Majority Leader.
To: sinkspur
I have no idea whether Lott is a racist or not. However he is a liability to conservatism. So he should not be in charge of the Senate.

Nobody's "crucifying" Lott. We just don't want him to be in a position of Republican Party leadership. He's done one stupid thing too many.
To: Tumbleweed_Connection
Poll at GoGov is showing support for Lott. Over 70% say no he should not resign.
Here's the poll link in case you want to check it out. Interesting because we FReeped this one earlier.
I don't think it is correct that everyone on FR wants Lott out as some on here have concluded.

We need America to strive for the goal of brotherhood - not tolerance. The brotherhood of Americans that is defined by respect for our own and each other's freedom and dignity and that brings high expectations and hopes and help that encourage and build each other up, regardless of race or personal circumstances. Your post could have been written by Jesse Jackson. It's boilerplate; meaningless. There are white and black people I can barely "tolerate." For God's sake, don't ask me to foster some kind of phoney "brotherhood" with them.
Do your calls for "brotherhood" include embracing gays as "brothers" as well?
Around here, gays are not even "tolerated."

Its too bad Truman isn't the
Leader of the Senate Democrats
right now, huh? We could probably use that.
What have you got on Daschle?
That's the key.

How would the nation react if they were made aware (in a footnote...) of any of these accusers racist pasts? It is the old commie tactic - accuse your enemy of what you yourself are doing. Then, when it is found out YOU are doing what you are accusing your enemy of doing, they will have taken the media hit for you and it won't seem so bad when it's found out that YOU are the one really engaging in the activity.
Saul Alinsky, an anti-American socialist personally taught this tactic to Hillary Rodham.
Can anyone else smell her armpit juice in this whole fiasco?

I just read the garbage that passes for a Joe Conason column. In classic liberal, leftwing Democrat fashion he poo-poos any talk about Democrats and their past history with their own bouts with bigotry i.e Robert Byrds past kkk affilition, Jacksons "hymietown" remark, Sharptons various racial stuff, Clintons support for segregationist William Fullbright etc, etc, etc. Of course in the leftwingers world that hypocrites like Conason live in all this pales in comparison to Lotts statements. The fact the old klan were Democrats who lynched Republicans along with Catholics and Blacks doesn't concern him in the slightist. There is modern day political mileage to be gained by Lotts words and that's the only thing that matters now. The leftwing sharks are circling for the 04 elections. Way to hand them ammunition Trent.
