He did push any Black Conservatives away while giving the democrats more ammo than they will be able use in the next 4 elections!
The dim-o-crats hope that we keep Trent just as we hope they keep Clinton.
Had we been (and we arent) but had we been he would have been forced Lott to not take up the position of leader in Jan rather than subject ALL GOP members to this.
This is/was a HUGE tactical mistake on keeping the GOP in control.
One which will cost us big in coming elections for years to come.
I would not let these guys negotate for my business.
The bell rang last week and now its too late for us to be able to recover.

"He could have been praising his ability to fight government spending, or his ability to work with the left, or his vision of better schools. Who said he was praising his segragation? Who says that's what thought was in his head? Who? The left." No, it's not just the left.
Plenty of people on the right are saying it also.
FACT: When Trent Lott was in college, he lead the fight to keep blacks out of his fraternity.
The main issue of the 1948 Dixiecrats was the preservation of segregation.
Wishing this to go away won't make it so. It's got to be dealt with. The way to deal with it is for Republicans to demand Lott step down.

Why even bring up Strom's 1948 run, weren't there better ways to praise him? Exactly. When I saw on C-Span that a video of Strom Thurmond's life would be shown at the birthday party, the first thing I thought was, "how are they going to handle the 'Dixie-crat' years? Surely the video won't intimate that there was anything admirable about that part of Strom's history?" Well the video pretty much glossed over that era, simply stating that he ran an independent campaign for President and won 4 states. "Fine," I thought, "the less said about that, the better." Then comes idiot boy. If Trent Lott is sufficiently politically sophisticated to be Majority Leader of the U.S. Senate, then I should be Master of the Galaxy.

How is Senator Byrd And his friends aka "White N*g**rs" doing these days...??That's one of the good things about all of this. Most Americans don't know about Byrd and the KKK, and the fact that it was Fritz Hollings who brought the Confederate Flag over the SC State House, now everyone will know these things and expose the Rats for the hypocrites they are.
To: Darling Lili

Yes.
To: GraniteStateConservative
And your proof that he was referring to the segregationist plank specifically is what exactly?
To: Behind Liberal Lines
Sorry, it's not the right reason or the right time and place.
The libs are forcing this issue, all the more reason to tell them to go to hell.
To: Kay Soze
"The dim-o-crats hope that we keep Trent just as we hope they keep Clinton." You are right on the money, FRiend. Lott is just as big an anchor now to Republicans as Klintoon is to the Dims.
It's not too late for us though. We can dump Lott, then point out the racism of KKK Bobby Big BYRD and Fritz Hollings.
Write your Senators!
Best regards,
F.B.D.

His only hope is that Chuck Schumer will see the mike, and in a Pavlovian response lunge for it creating an acoustic barrier between Lott and the mike. ROFL!

Presidential Racism Harry S Truman reportedly joined the Klan for a short time in 1922, also, his defenders contend, for political reasons. Truman reportedly sought Klan backing in his race for a judgeship in Jackson County, Missouri. In Hooded Americanism: The First Century of the Ku Klux Klan, 1865-1965, author David M. Chalmers writes: "Truman's own story was that when he was told to promise not to give any jobs to Catholics he angrily withdrew and got his money back." Another version cited by Chalmers "was that the future President did go through with his initiation although he was never an active member."
Active Klansman or not, Harry Truman's nearly lifelong record of personal racism is documented by his own published and unpublished letters, oral histories, and other documents on file at the Truman Library in Independence, Missouri. Dr. William Leuchtenburg, president of the American Historical Association and a professor at the University of North Carolina, is writing a book about our 33rd president. During his research, Leuchtenburg found that in 1911 Truman (who was 27) wrote to his future wife, Bess: "I think one man is just as good as another so long as he's honest and decent and not a nigger or a Chinaman. Uncle Will [probably Wfiliam Yount, the brother of Truman's mother] says that the Lord made a white man from dust, a nigger from mud, then He threw up what was left and it came down a Chinaman."
Truman continued: "[I] am strongly of the opinion Negroes ought to be in Africa, yellow men in Asia and white men in Europe and America."
According to Professor Leuchtenburg, Truman was the first president since Reconstruction to make civil rights a federal priority. Yet he continued to use racial slurs throughout most of his life.

Yup, right on, dump Lott, and point out the racists Byrd and Hollings. This can be a win-win!

He better not! That would be selfish beyond belief. What he should do is lash back in his press conference and point out that it is the democrats that were the party of segregation, stop apologizing for the fact that his statements were misconstrued, and announce that he will step down as Majority Leader in the best interest of the party, but will remain a senator.
To: usmc_chris
Well, that would be a lie and I hope he doesn't persist in traveling that route. He was praising the 1948 Thurmond, not the 2002 version.
