Sean Hannity is gonna hang himself with this Lott issue.

Hannity.com Frontpage:

"Saying he used "a poor choice of words," Trent Lott spoke with Sean on the newsmakers phoneline at length on December 11th in an exclusive interview. This follows a firestorm of criticism by Liberals and Conservatives alike in reaction to comments made by Lott at Sen Strom Thurman's 100th birthday party."

The issue is that he shouldnt have said it in an open forum...and he did.

And there's no excuse in the world for him not to have known better.

That's NOT what I was saying. I just think it would be smart to listen to black conservatives on this one. So far it is mixed. Some support Lott and some do not. Their views should carry extra weight.

"I don't understand why Rush and Hannity want to keep Lott in power."

They're tired of Republicans CONSTANTLY bending over and taking it up the wazzoo from the likes of Castro-lover Maxine Waters.

What you're overlooking is that Lott is usually the one handing out the Vaseline.

If we dump Lott and get someone with a spine into that position, the Republicans will do a lot less caving.

Their views should carry extra weight.

Why? Are they more moral or ethical than whites? More intelligent? Sounds racist to me. Better to judge the worth of a man's views on his knowledge of the subject and the content of his character, than on the color of his skin.

Even before all of this came up, I always thought that Lott should be replaced. He tries too much to be all things to all people. He tries to get along too much. For all I know, he may be a racist, but I wouldn't doubt that he thought the same words uttered twenty years ago would work again in the same situation the other day. We have all said things that didn't come out the way they were intended, but I am assuming that what he said was rehearsed. In any case, this is a good opportunity for the Republicans to put someone in whose first thought of the day isn't what he/she can do to kiss Tom Daschle's backside.

Since he said pretty much the same statement twenty years ago, I am wondering if he ad-libbed it.

Well, Trent Lott is getting the ultimate lesson on what it means to deal with Democrats. He may not have believed it before, but he won't ever forget this lesson.

Because it only makes sense. I guess I'm assuming that black conservative interests ARE ALREADY the same as white conservative interests. However, they are uniquely in a position to be most offended by Lott's remarks. Whites are not. Therefore, their opinion holds more weight with me on this subject. Black liberals are motivated to trash Lott for his politics. Black conservatives like his politics and can judge the comments on their real merits.

I was not the one insulted (or potentially insulted, depending on your interpretation). I want input from those who share my politics but might have been offended. What Thomas Sowell, Armstrong Williams, J.C. Watts, Rev. Petersen, Alan Keyes, Larry Elder, etc...have to say on this subject matters to me.

That's what I think. For some people, the lesson is learned much too late.

Do you not count it as offensive when absolutely no African-Americans at all vote for any Republicans in vast areas of the country?

Look, everybody has known since time began, if you want respect, you have to earn it, and when it comes to politicians and voters, politicians respect voters. People who don't vote for them don't necessarily get respect.

Personally I don't care what African-Americans think about a guy they don't vote for - he already knows what they think. As far as being offended, it's been the Republicans, not the African-Americans, who have been accused of starving babies, taking medicine away from old people, and forcing raped women to bear unwanted babies. Oh, yes, must add, it's been the African-American DEMOCRATS making such accusations along with their running dog "white liberal guilt" lackies in the media.

Lott should switch to the Democratic party.

"We shouldnt harangue the left over Clinton and Jackson now...we should've crucified them then..."

Get rid of Lott now, but make a mental note to ride the next HymieTown/TawanaBrawley incident in the same manner. That sounds reasonable, except: no one who's calling for Lott to go is being accused of being an anti-white racist. However, if you tried to clamp down on Jesse Jackson, you'd be immediately called a racist. Much like the pro-immigration lobby accusing anyone who's against illegal immigration of being a xenophobic racist.

So, there need to be structural changes as well to make it easier to discuss matters like these without being smeared as a racist.

Yeah, but... I thought we hold ourselves to a higher standard.

We do. The problem is, the RATS also hold us to that standard, as do the news media. It is the ultimate in duplicity, hypocricy and bias.

"Lott should switch to the Democratic party."

That'd solve everything. He could take one for the (old) party.

No, if Lott has to go, then purge them all now. The lesson from the Lott affair is that there is no statute of limitations on allegedly racist thoughts. That means that Byrd is liable, Hollings is liable, Jackson and Sharpton are liable, Clinton (both of them) is liable, etc.

If a line is being drawn in the sand, then it applies to everyone.

Take them all down with Lott.

"Do you not count it as offensive when absolutely no African-Americans at all vote for any Republicans in vast areas of the country?"

I'm not being rude but [even if that were true] that has nothing to do with this subject. Lott's actions are Lott's actions.

"Look, everybody has known since time began, if you want respect, you have to earn it, and when it comes to politicians and voters, politicians respect voters. People who don't vote for them don't necessarily get respect."

So what?

"Personally I don't care what African-Americans think about a guy they don't vote for - he already knows what they think."

Something else that doesnt have anything to do with this. Your judgement seems to be clouded by some sort of bitterness.

Some of you guys cant help but get bogged down in the "personal" side of this. Lose that. Look at this mathmatically. 1+1=2. Lott remaining as a leader equals the media and the Liberals continueing to have a toe-hold in accusing Conservatives of having an inherent slant against minorities.

Whether it is true or not is of little consequence in politics. It is the perception that now has one more ember to burn.

Lott has to go. He either goes now...or he will go later and so will other Conservatives simply because of their association with him.

Some of you guys are willing to win a battle and lose the War. Lott put his own foot in his own mouth. The media didnt say it. Jesse Jackson didnt say it. Lott said it...

...this is the outcome of it.

Yes, but how? Catch Al on tape doing something like buying crack? They're protected by the Teflon shield of Personhood of Color.

Like that is gonna happen.

Are you done dreaming? How about making reality-based suggestions.

I'd agree they should all fall. Though politically it would be better for us to keep the Liberal racists...after awhile it'll catch up to them.

Anyway...it isnt gonna happen.

Funny...nobody's trying to oust Thurman for actually BEING the Segregationist presidential candidate, as contrasted with Lott simply giving the guy a vague compliment on his birthday.

No, it will show that the GOP will not tolerate 1950's racism any longer. That would be a good thing.

You are so correct. Lott should resign his Senate seat. We need to be above the example set by Clinton and his gang.
