The best tank in the world?

What do you all think is the best tank in the world, now and before of cause.

I´m from Germany so for me it´s clear. The Leopard 2A5 ist the best tank the world has ever known. We also produced some great tanks like the Tiger or Panther, for Expert´s the Henschel Sturmtiger and the Köngistiger are the ancestors of all modern tanks and the Us and Russia have stolen our ideas.

It didn't keep the Allies from defeating the filty Nazi bastards and sending them to hell.

It might have, had the Germans had it in '44. (Hint: The Leopard 2A5 is a modern MBT). ;-)

It is interesting to note that the Leopard and the Leopard 2 are derived from the US M26/M46 Pershing chassis family (as were all modern US tanks before the M1), and are not mechanically similar in any way to the Panther or Tiger series.

My favorite MBT is the Pzkw V Panther G. I guess I'm just old-fashioned.

So I can mount a 120 MM cannon on top of an Escalade and as long as I am using good, tactics and following the terrain it would be considered equal with an Abrams, or Chieftain, or Merk or Leopard?

IMHO,

Panther in World War II. Once the bugs were worked out. Good frontal armor, good mobility and excellent gun.
It's mAin weakness was poor side armor.

Abrahms or Leopard II today. Abrahms has been battle proven but I think the Leopard II will perform just as well.

The French tank has the most comfortable suspension and the most comfortable toilets...

Yeah but it only has 1 forward gear and 5 reverse gears! Also comes equipped with a "pop-up" white flag.

Don't forget the fragile transmission on the Panther. They never really got that worked out. Still, the Panther F would have been SWEET, had it ever been fielded.

These days, the MBT is largely obsolete. Tac air eats 'em for lunch.

And an auto-loader that makes it completely vulnerable [more so than any other western tank] if it engages more than one tank simultaniously.

I don't see how having an auto-loader could possibly prevent a french tank crew from "engaging", or as we call it surrendering, to multiple tanks...

Aye, the Leopard II is quite impressive but too bad the socialists screw up their own arms industry (hint: Leopard II deal with Turkey).

The Panther was a reverse-engineered T-34 Stalin that was over-engineered in the process. Against our Shermans, it was a superior tank, but for every Panther (or any other Nazi tank ever) they built, we built ten. Our quanity (plus superior training and tactics), not the quality won.

i.e. Take the breech block of the German 88. It had over a hundred parts, our 90MM had less than 30. The Germans made great weapons, but they for the most part, they over-engineered.

The problem with WWII German Tanks/Panzers is that they broke down too easily because of their complexity. When they worked they were great tanks but they only worked part of the time. The rest of the time they were down for repairs.

I believe it is because it doesn't have the newer radio-operator "Kugel" MG mount.

yeah, but her tanks are the same as the inflatable ones used by the Allies to fool the German recon planes just before D-Day. I still prefer the real thing, that includes MBT's
