Get over It
December 04, 2002
Am I the only one thats about sick of the race card being played by the Jesse Jackasses of the world? I thought when this whole Trent Lott remark made in tribute to the 100th birthday to Sen. Strom Thurmond was made, it would just blow over, considering it was nothing more than that, a tribute and show of respect for the former Democrat. But oh no, because Lott is a Republican and soon to take over as Senate Majority Leader for the ousted Tommy Daschle, the race baiters are livid.
I ask you Mr. Jackson, where was your outrage less that 2 years ago when the Democratic Sen. Robert Byrd dropped the N-bomb on a national news show? Why were you not calling for his resignation like you are calling for the resignation of Senator Lott? Ill tell you why, sir, because it is you and your followers who are the true racists. And you, Rev. Jackass are a racist of the worst kind. You are the kind of

Republicans are held to a higher standard. And that is a good thing. Republicans at least have standards. One of the standards that we have is that we ought not to tolerate the hypocrisy that Democrats tolerate in their midst.
Lott's remarks showed an inconceivable lack of judgement and a remarkable lack of inteligence. They also played into the hands of those who think all republicans are a bunch of backwards knuckle dragging racist ignoramuses.
We as a party ought to be calling for Lott to step down as the Majority leader. He is not fit for the job. Indeed if he had said such a thing in a regular business setting he would have been fired, even if he was only the janitor.
We ought not to hold our Majority leader to a lesser standard than we would hold a hamburger flipper. Lott needs to go. He is an embarrassment. He is an idiot.

Wrong. Lott must go.
The double standard is irrelevant. Lott is a fool, who hurts his party every time he opens his mouth.
I hope he leaves the majority leader position and soon!

He is not fit for the jobThat's for the GOP Senators, who elected Lott leader, to determine. Not you.
You just hate everybody lately, don't you?
First innocent Muslims, now a guy who made some dumb remarks at a party for an old man?

The only place the word racist applies is for republicans and conservatives. Lieberals and democrats in general consider it a contradiction in terms to use racist and democrat together, but a redundancy when racist and conservative are used together.

With all this hyper-sensitivity running amuk here, I would not be surprised if Senator Lott just saying "Happy Birthday" would not be taken by the radical feminists as pro-life propaganda slamming a woman's right to abort .. er choose.

You just hate everybody lately, don't you? I don't hate Lott. He is just stupid. Frankly I feel sorry for him. But nevertheless I don't feel sorry enough for him to let his idiocy slide by and let him lead the republican party down the pathway to irrelevance.
I don't hate innocent Muslims. I hate the doctrines that Islam teaches. The Muslims are deceived. They are following EVIL doctrines to their own and eveyone else's destruction.
I would only hope that Muslims see the error of their ways or the errors of Islam. I can only hope that Lott sees the error of his ways.
I have no hope that YOU will ever see anything beyond the bridge of your nose.

I agree with the excerpt from the article, only I think the GOP should use the opportunity to get rid of Lott.
IMO, saying what he said was unforgivably stupid, in that it gives the Democrats yet another opportunity to slam the GOP with the "race card." But the GOP ought to find a silver lining in the rain cloud and use this as an opportunity to get rid of a leader whose main quality seems to be timidity. 'Course that quality seems to be prominent in most of the GOP.

The Republican Party deserves better.

It doesnt matter. We dont have to stoop to their level by excusing idiots like Lott.
I am sick of all of the finger pointing. Lott is a FOOL. I dont care if every Democrat is a KKK member, OUR SIDE SHOULD NOT PUT UP WITH AN IDIOT LIKE TRENT LOTT.
He has never done a single good thing for us as Majority leader, and he should step down.
To: Sam Cree
I'm curious: For discussion. Do you think that President Bush should call out Islam as an evil religion?
I'm noticing a lot of people calling for Lott to step down for saying that Thurmond could have fixed a lot of problems over the years. (Lott never even mentioned race.) He could have been talking about taxes for all we know.
Anyhow, its interesting to see these people say Bush should speak out against Islam (Which I believe he should) and then see these same people call for Lott's resignation because he praised Strom Thurmond as someone who is able to fix problems.

Newt Gingrich resigns and all the devilcrats get a free pass...jump the line!
To: fissionproducts
If Lott had used the "N" word I don't think he would have been given the Byrd treatment. I think its best for the party if he quietly agreed to resign within a few months after the new Congress convenes to allow the party to choose a new Majority Leader. He never cut a dashing figure in the past in this post and his comments will be political baggage for the party in the 2004 election. Its not like we need the black vote but being on the good side of swing voters counts and they don't feel comfortable voting for what's perceived as a racist party.
To: fissionproducts
I guess you believe that Lott should have lambasted Thurmond at his 100th birthday party and called him a racist Dixiecrat.
To: stoney
Right on!
To: ConservativeMan55
Lott should have simply said Thurmond's life is a lesson on how people can outgrow their past and recognize that America is best served when every one no matter their color, race, sex, religion or creed is able to realize their opportunity to attain the American Dream. Its just too bad Lott couldn't say something like this at Thurmond's birthday party.
