SEMI-VANITY: "Louisiana contest gives ’04 hint", so get off your Cajun kiester and VOTE !!!

Dec. 6 — The Democrats lost control of the Senate in the Nov. 5 elections, but have a lot more to lose Saturday if Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu is defeated by her Republican challenger, Suzanne Haik Terrell. A Terrell victory would be fresh evidence that the Republicans are closer to cementing their status as the dominant party in the South, making any Democratic bid for the White House in 2004 more difficult.

NO DEMOCRATIC presidential candidate has ever won the White House without winning at least a few Southern states.

If Al Gore had gotten the electoral votes of just one Southern state — Arkansas’ six, for example — he would have won the White House in 2000. He won none.

WHY DEMOCRATS FRET

If the 2002 elections are a harbinger of 2004, then Democrats have reason to worry.

Dixie Democrats lost widely in last month’s balloting. Voters tossed out incumbent Democratic governors in Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina.

Democratic challenger Bill McBride failed by an embarrassing margin to topple Gov. Jeb Bush in Florida, a state Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe had made his top priority.

While Democrats picked up one Senate seat in Arkansas, they lost in several other states: North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee.

So for Democrats, a Landrieu win on Saturday would be an encouraging sign that Bush and his party have not quite locked up the Solid South.

Louisiana is the only Southern state where no Republican has been able to win a Senate seat since 1883, during the Reconstruction Era when the GOP dominated the South.

Landrieu won her seat in 1996 by only the narrowest of margins, 0.4 percent, defeating Republican Woody Jenkins.

The most fitting way to pay tribute to our President and his tireless efforts to elect a Senate majority (along with some terrific candidates like Norm Coleman and Jim Talent), is to ice the cake by electing Sen. Suzanne Haik Terrell.

Go Cajuns Go!!!

"Louisiana contest gives ’04 hint"

I personally don't think it means a lot about the 2004 election but it will mean a lot about the next year; we need to be sure to get some aggresive tax cuts through congress to get this economy cooking by '04 - then it will really mean something. I'm all for pushing through a package comparable to the '94 Contract with America which made it all the way to the White House only to be vetoed by Bill PigBoy Clinton.

Louisiana State Flag Louisiana

I spent a college summer break in Opelousas, LA as a "welders helper" building a compression plant for a natural gas pipeline.  I learned a lot about the State including; what "love bugs" are, how to go crabbing, it's crawfish not crawdads, that humidity is hot, that $0.25 shots of whisky are a good thing, and that Cajuns are the most friendly folks there are.

At the end of the article they end with this upbeat message:

"But there is a road map that can take the Democrats to the White House — and the route runs right through Dixie. The last Democratic president, Bill Clinton, carried Louisiana by wide margins both in 1992 and in 1996, as well as a few other states of the old Confederacy."

Rush was right. Many of these articles are either pep-talks or forms of advice for Democrats. However, Southerners haven't forgotten what Bill Clinton, the supposed centrist, did to them, and to all of us, on gun control. They won't be fooled again. It would almost take an act of God for Democrats to ever be competitive in the South again.

All across the Florida Panhandle are hundreds of busloads of Miami area Jamaicans and Haitians, moving into Louisiana for a good day's work, making big bucks for every vote they cast for Mary. They were going to bring in Indians from South Dakota because they are very experienced but most are still sleeping off the drunk from what they earned in November.

The Haitians are especially high paid in Louisiana because they speak French and can signal the dem precinct workers and blend in. They couldn't do this well in Miami/Palm Springs because they don't speak Yiddish.

I expect that the local dem precinct folks will guide the inbound busses to nursing homes, jails and cemetaries to pick up ID information and then lead them to the various polling places. Be on the look out for busses with Florida plates.
