One movie I definitely want to see this holiday season is the next Tolkien novel adapted: The Two Towers. Those of you, who have read the book, know that this story captures exactly what is occurring in our nation as we prepare for war, the good people of the West are under attack by a conniving evil that has used the generosity of the West against itself. (Note the parallels between Saruman and the Saudis). The West has so long been protected from the necessity of dealing with far-off evil, that its citizens are not yet convinced that such a war is necessary. But of all the parallels to our situation, my favorite is a character in the movie whose real-world contemporaries have emerged to sound off in the news media, on talk shows, and in anti-war protests.
I am talking about the character of Wormtongue. A man who is totally dedicated to making people feel cynical, afraid, and incapable of self-defense. He holds his power by feeding half-truths and preying on fear. He is able to keep a great leader from going to war, even though it has long been obvious that war is necessary. Perhaps Colin Powell will play him in the non-fiction adaptation.
Such is our current plight: People spinning stories of the high cost of war (what about the high cost of delay?), and the horrors of battle, and even trying to convince us of the goodness of the enemy. Wormtongue and his master Saruman, would be hard-put to compare with the exaggerated criticisms I am hearing of our president and military.
Without giving away the movie, I just want to drop a hint that a sort of fairy-tale Patrick Henry does emerge to oppose Wormtongue. Tolkien fans probably know who I am referring to. Such heroes are always popping up to provide insight on the real situation, much to the annoyance of Wormtongues everywhere. I hope this movie reminds Americans that now is the time to make sure the president hears the other side as voiced by those rare commentators on talk radio and the internet who get it right. Im certain the president is getting an earful from all those Wormtongues right about now.

That would be GWB, calling Mahomedanism "a religion of peace", admiring our illegal immigrants as representing 'family values' and appeasing our true enemy, COMMUNIST China, at every opportunity.
. . .your insult does not 'fly'. . .because it is only a fraction of the truth. . .
. . .try flying close to Right; and you may get somewhere.
. . .'wormtongued devils' works for the 'lot' of them. . .
. . .sounds like a movie worth seeing and a book worth sharing. Thanks!
. . .your insult does not 'fly'. . .because it is only a fraction of the truth. . .
GWB just attended some Islamic celebration where he re-affirmed his 'religion of peace' nonsense.
GWB just started the process of unleashing Mexican trucks on our highways and is working hard to 'legalize' as many illegal immigrants as possible.
GWB pushed Communist China into WTO so that the murderous Chinese despots (worse than Saddam by several orders of magnitude) would feel as a completely 'normal' regime.
What exactly is NOT true above? Are you suggesting that the truth should be hidden because W is 'our boy'? Well, then I may have to give you more bad news: he's NOT.
On the other hand, he may prove to be well-intentioned but misguided, like his father, when it came to Iraq, immigration, government reduction, domestic energy self-sufficiency ...
I'm encouraged by fiction: King Theoden, my favorite LOTR character, pulled himself together and fought, effectively, before it was too late.
. . .well, it is no secret that he has a plan; but you are right that we do not know it's 'proper time' for execution. . .and there is nothing unrealistic about that!
You are correct. He forgot: Signer of the Patriot Act, signer of the CFR bill, keeper of our wide open borders, enabler of Mexican trucks taking over our commerce, violater of our 2nd amendment rights through his support of the "assault weapons ban", etc, etc, etc.
Snake Carville would make the perfect "Wormtongue". He even looks the part!
I heard Sean Hannity wailing about the CFR and how liberals were limiting free speech. What Sean didn't mention was that Bush signed it!
