Rush Limbaugh & Vietnam
Self ^ | n/a | Self

Posted on 12/04/2002 11:33:37 AM PST by OldCorps

I was listening to Rush Limbaugh a while ago and some liberal fool came on and said that Sen. John Kerry had "gravitas" (gag me, I'm so tired of that overused word) because he signed up for service with ___ Pershing and the guy who founded FEDEX. How does that give Sen. Kerry gravitas? It seems to me this vignette shows he (Sen. Kerry) is just a spoiled rich boy.

Then the liberal came up and mentioned Rush's being a draft dodger.

I served 1980-1984. Did not see action. Is my critique of "Saving Private Ryan" valid or invalid?

My family says it was caused by them cutting my tail off when I was born.

LOL. I've never asked my parents if I was born with a tail, but I don't think a tail is close enough to the offinding orifice.

At any rate I was free of these buggars during my service. Must have something to do with diet and exercise.

Rather than make a vanity post, I thought this might be a good thread on which to ask a Rush question. Rush was asking yesterday what Mary, Tony, and someone else had in common, but I didn't hear the answer. Just gots ta know. Who was the someone else and what was the answer? Thanks to anyone who can answer.

I'm confused (I know, not hard).

You're the guy that called in originally asking about Rush's Vietnam status or were you another caller?

"Where is the outrage? People are talking about Rush lack of military service but no one has posted anything about clinton. Why is that?"

Maybe it's just me, but must EVERYTHING on Free Republic relate back to Clinton? How about if we start a thread about, *ahem*, obsessions?

Funny we’re talking about this, after all these years, in a nation where the Commander in Chief (though I prefer that position be filled by someone who’s served) is a civilian by design, whose founders recognized that the decision to go to war was essentially a political one, vested in our representatives, not the military.

I assume Rush wasn’t anxious to go (I’d bet he had the option to try surgery, and come back), which doesn’t make his condition illegitimate. MHT and wardaddy touch on what I think it the most important factor, this was probably occurring in 70-71 during the drawdown. Didn’t need as many bodies, and why “buy” one with a medical condition the military would become responsible to treat.

It's a strange but true fact that Rush got out of serving in Vietnam because of (hold your hat), an anal cyst.

Did the cyst go on to be a Democrat senator?

Are you that guy who used to throw his feces at me when I cut through his back yard on my way to the young republicans' club?

You speak for yourself alone. I don't put much credance in the opinion of warmongers that didn't spend one minute in defense of their country. Military service is important to some of us.

And you speak for your self-alone. This former Marine doesn’t give a rat's a** weather he served or not. What I DO care about is weather someone supports the PROPER use of the military in the defense of this nation and its interests. Rush does.

What about my father who volunteered in '65, knowing he wasn't going to college, hoping to get a quicker tour of duty, but was rejected because of a foot long metal plate holding his shin together.

Nope, their opinion has been rendered null and void. Also, anyone other than a law enforcement officer is now unable to argue for vigorous policing against crime. After all, some cops will die in the process, and only someone who has risked their life fighting crime has the right to advocate putting them in harm's way.

In your case, it seems that if you liked Saving Private Ryan, your opinion is valid, but if you disliked it, your opinion is invalid. But, I can't tell for sure.

On e of the posters described how these develop. My doctor told me that some were born with the little pocket and some were not. The pocket can be irritated, fill with liquid, and become inflamed. The doc said that some believe it was a evolutionary thing about tails. Who knows.

How many soldiers were shot and patched up and sent back into action during vietman?

They were already in. Rush's cyst would have become the military's responsibility to patch up if drafted. They may not have wanted to bother.

John Kerry did a tour in Viet Nam in riverine patrol boats. He came away with a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts. Doesn't sound like a spoiled rich boy to me.

But his going on to become a Democrat shows some degree of being unable to differentiate between fantasy and reality.
