Strider (Aragorn of Arathorn)is one of my favorite characters in the book. Why in the world does he have to go political? I still love Strider in the book but I will ignore the actor who plays him!

I don't necessarily want everyone to feel exactly as I do, but I could do with a lot less variation. Muslims who want to wipe out Jews and Christians, I could live without them and I don't think the world would be any less rich. Marxists determined to destroy capitalism, I could live without them. Anarchists determined to destroy civilization, I could definitely do without them. America-haters, yeah, I could live without them.

That leaves plenty of room for variation, as far as I'm concerned. That leaves Republicans, Libertarians, Objectivists, Zionists, monarchists overseas... yeah, that's plenty. (-:

And you're right, I was completely wrong on the lesbian hairdo... I forgot most of them really prefer the mullet. O-: And by the way, the hairdo doesn't describe the person, it's reflective of a movement or trend and if you get to know someone you'll find that they have some sympathies with that trend even if you can't see them right away.

This guy is an actor. I don't know if my mechanic, my banker, or my grocery clerk support Bush's policies in the gulf, I just care if they do their job.

Well stated.

Stop feeding actors' egos by treating their silly political and social opinions like they matter.

Evidently he learned nothing from all his time with the trilogy, he still things the hobbits can just talk to Sauron and convince him to be a good guy?

Oh well, don't confuse actors with their part is the lesson I guess. It is sad to see on the special features on the new DVD that evidently Elijah Wood is a real pot mouth, but I still enjoy him as Frodo.

You're correct. I did the same thing you did in post #116 where you assumed I am an environmental wacko freak. I'm for drilling for our own oil in our country. If we do that, those banana countries will become supplicants begging us to buy their oil at $5.00 a barrel. Of course, the oil special interests with political clout would not allow that to happen with the acquienscnce of our dishonest "reprehensentatives ( a great many of them).

I'm against this so-called "war" because I see it as selective and does not really address terrorism as a whole.
Have you noticed that North Korea admits to these weapons, yet, no warnings are given to them? Can you guess why?

If memory serves, I believe they were also included in the Pres's "axis of evil".

Quite frankly, I am tired of Bush's daily warnings as it shows arrogance and I don't care for arrogant people. You know as well as I do all this shows is he is "champing at the bit" to attack.
He sounds as if he's also warning the inspectors that they better find something! Maybe it's just me who gets that impression.

If there are weapons of mass destruction, then we should do a pre-emptive strike, but, I want more proof than the word of one person even if he is the President. I don't trust any politician regardless of his/her label.

In any event, if I offended you, my apologies.

To be honest with you, I haven't looked at Gandlaf's relationship with hobbits the same since I found that out.

OMG!!!

Also, since he is a fine swordsman, I am willing to cut him some small amount of slack.

Minor correction from the fighter broad: the film makes him look like a fine swordsman. (Movie fights are choreographed as carefully as movie dances.)

Because China is even more interested in disarming North Korea than we are? After all, they are right across the border, and have a history of very unfriendly relations with the Korea peninsula. We're concerned. China has cause for real fear. All of China is in range of current N. Korean missiles, only Hawai'i and some of the Aleutian islands are threated US soil.

China must apply all the pressure they need to remove the threat from their own back yard.

We can focus our attention elsewhere where WE face more subtle and pernicious threats.

I was suffering a kind of heartthrob crush on the character of Aragorn, and Boromir too.

Elven hint for the day: Legolas is hotter. (And he was PFC Todd Blackburn in the superb Black Hawk Down.)

He used to be married to that whacked-out punker Exene Cervenka.

And this is bad because . . . ?

...as well he should. That's called GOOD ACTING.

You've got to remember that he carries the very success or failure of all existence on his little shoulders.

I take it that you have NOT read the book? Your post seemed to note that his facial expression was not appropriate. Hoped I 'splained the reason to ya.

Still wish I hadn't read this thread...the LOTR movie was the single biggest pop-culture event of this quarter century. And I can't wait until December 18...I'll forget about Viggo (what kind of name is that, anyway) and only see Aragorn. The last role that the Viggo person played was a gigolo in a Gynneth Paltrow movie, so his time with LOTR may be his only hurrah.

re:But, no more than we should listen to actors like Barbra Streisand )))

That's right. She was fantastic in Hello Dolly. Just an idiot off camera. I still love Hello Dolly.

I wasn't offended and I really didn't think you were a green. I do think we have grounds to handle SH. I also think NK will be on our short list sooner than later. It appears that China isn't interested in protecting NK either. The NK stuff is just a guess on my part.

uh I read Tolkien for the first time when I was in fifth grade, sometime around 1970 IIRC. My senior HS thesis was based upon LOTR. I also studied it in two different colleges. last time I rread it was last summer.

yep. I don't know anything about it.

we differ in opinion friend, I feel that Frodo was a bit more laid back.

Actually that needs correcting again. If you have the extended DVD and have watched the special features you will find out that Viggo turned out to be quite a swordsman according to the REAL swordsman who trained him.

Still wish I hadn't read this thread...

I know what you mean. I was working myself up to a grand swooning experience (as I only rarely have done, ever) for the TTT and Aragorn. It just can never be the same. The guy's a maroon.

Legolas is a handsome young chap, who reminds me way too much of my 15 yr old son. 8^)

BTW, I heard that VIGGOOO is possible to play the part of Jim Bowie in the Ron Howard film of 'The Alamo'. And I'm sure he will be good in it. He is a good ack-tor.
