The European Voice maganize announced at it's annual gala the Pim Fortuyn was voted for European politician of the year.
Marco Cappato from Italy became European of the year.
Also Colin Powell was elected as non-European citizen of the year.
European campaign leader of the year: Pope Johannes Paulus II European businessleader of the year: Wim Duisenberg European diplomat of the year: Romano Prodi European journalist of the year: Maggie 'O Kane (The Guardian) European viosionary of the year: Valéry Giscard d'Estaing (former Fench PM)

I'm so glad Pim was given this honor, but saddened because this reminds me he was cut down in cold blood.
What's the status on the criminal case of his far-left murderer?

Congrats, only 100,000 counts (never even thought of that, 799977, I could have found 23 more articles to post)
Not a comment on Fortuyn at all, but on Europe perhaps, there's something odd about selecting a deceased politician as "European Politician of the Year".

Well, it was the Dutch LPF-people who got him elected (with some Freeper help).
Fortuyn really deserved it. He turned Europe upside down. He may be dead, but his politics live on.
Many Dutch parties embraced his ideas, The VVD (liberals, but also right-winged) copied almost everyhing and even the PvdA (socialists) took some of his points.
