I believe sneakypete said he checked that out and Ted Maher wasn't a Green Beret....sneakypete, am I mistaken? Yes,you are mistaken. He is a former Special Forces medic.

Dave S, You are correct in your thinking that a post should contain enough information that a reader knows what the hell you are talking about. I think when you did ask for more information, it wasn't the question you asked, but the words used in asking. It pissed him off. You were already pissed and the snowball is rolling. It could be laziness or he may have thought everyone would know what he was talking about.

Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends....
He won't get to come home to his family for the holidays.
And Safra won't get to draw another breath for the rest of eternity.
To: Lancey Howard
That's true, but it isn't unusual.
For example, there are a handful of FReepers I could name that ONLY show up on "Neo-Confederacy" threads.
It isn't uncommon to have a "hobby," and to be interested only in a single topic. If you do a search for some of these people, you'll see that you're right: They only show up on threads about a particular narrow topic.

I guess the bottom line is, did he commit the crime he is accused of? And if countries other than ours do not uphold their own laws that are broken, then what are we doing going after Al Quiada, if the same would be expected of us?
If the guy did the crime he does the time, end of story, no matter who gets their feelings hurt. Have freepers lost (or never gained) their integrity?

No trial transcripts. Some of the articles posted above have quotations, but unfortunately no.

All you Ted Maher detractors, I hope you're happy. He won't get to come home to his family for the holidays. JERKS!!!!! Hate to bother you with details that would bother any Christian or Jew, but there are two other people that will never experience another holiday with family because they are dead.
How many prayers have those praying for Ted Maher been said for the victims?

Let me know when you understand the rules during Viet Nam and how they changed later. A reading comprehension problem, eh? Let me reiterate -
I
SERVED
POST-
VIETNAM
AND
THE
CODE
OF
CONDUCT
WAS
STILL
IN
EFFECT.
EVERY
WORD.

Now actually read the Code of Contact of prisoners of war
during Viet Nam and then after Viet Nam.
And then please explain how either one would apply to a US citizen deprived of due process.
Thank You for your service to our country.

That 3 month figure sure makes the confession in open court a bit interesting, no? Almost as if he made a deal...let us appear to win, and we'll let you go home to your wife and kids (after enough time has passed to heal most types of wounds and metabolize most types of drugs). The same scenario could be argued for any alleged murderer or criminal being held on any charge anywhere in the world. Is your solution to any murder simply to let confessed murderers go free, based on the theory that they *might* have been drugged into providing a confession? What kind of "justice" does that provide to the families of those murdered?

"I guess the bottom line is, did he commit the crime he is accused of? "
IF he actually had they would have tried him 3 years ago.
Monaco "justice" is like an Iraqi election. Only one outcome is allowed.
Then again Bubba never commited any crimes because "justice" was served.
Kangaroo court bump!

Now actually read the Code of Contact of prisoners of war ... Irrelevant; apples and oranges. Maher's status as a former Green Beret is well-known, and you were the one trying to make excuses for the man "cracking under pressure" of some alleged drugs and confessing. My point is that there were American POWs who did NOT crack under very real pressure, for a much longer period of time and under much more heinous conditions than Maher has been incarcerated. To attempt to compare a convicted civilian murderer's experience with that of genuine POWs is an insult to the POWs.

No, I think that this is the Maher held in Monaco for some trumped up charge. Trumped up charge? The idiot set a fire that killed 2 people by his own admission... hardly a matter of trumped up charges. He's lucky he only got 10 years.
To: home educate
Maybe so. Let's hope that the real story can be ascertained on appeal.....

"To attempt to compare a convicted civilian murderer's experience with that of genuine POWs is an insult to the POWs."
Show me the EXACT post where I compared his experience to a POW's.
Maybe someday you'll get to serve on a Kangaroo court.
Your attempt to personally discredit me just shows how faulty your "thinking" is.
To: HamiltonJay
The matches made him do it.
To: 68-69TonkinGulfYatchClub
"Wear someone down for 3 years and then a "confession" comes."
Your statement on its face would be true, however in this case the confession was voluntarily given on December 6, 1999- three days after the crime was committed!
