Wal-Mart Faces Pro-Homosexual Attack
Concerned Women For America ^ | Martha Kleder

Sex-charged mags are gone from check-out lanes at Wal-Mart ... or are they?

Wal-Mart's recent announcement that sexually charged magazines would be removed from at least two check-out lanes per store - four lanes in the larger stores that include groceries - has raised several questions.

Meanwhile, radical homosexual activists led by the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF) have targeted the retail giant for a national protest, partly because it will not give special protections to "transgender" (gender-confused) employees.

Which Lanes?
Wal-Mart's announcement about the racy magazines didn't come with a stated company-wide policy on which lanes the magazines would be removed from, leaving customers to ferret them out in each store.

When this writer called Wal-Mart's toll-free customer service number to inquire about the issue, she was told that there was no system in place nationwide, and was instructed to contact the upper management in her local store.

The local store denied having any magazines in their check-out lanes.

"This is a major loose end that Wal-Mart needs to tie up for the sake of families," said Robert Knight, director of the Culture and Family Institute. "I would advise customers to contact Wal-Mart's toll-free customer service line and ask about the company's plans to mark the aisles, so that customers can make an informed choice."

"By contacting customer service with such questions, families will be able to thank Wal-Mart for this move, and encourage them to set a clear policy on magazine display quickly," he added. "Customer service representatives can also give you the number to your local Wal-Mart, so you can verify before you shop."

But the lack of a clear policy on the sexy magazine rollback has American Decency Association President Bill Johnson concerned.

"This is the very reason why Wal-Mart should remove such materials from all of its check-out lanes," he told C&F Report. "Without the 'clean' lanes being clearly marked, customers will gravitate to the shortest check-out line and will continue to be unwillingly exposed to this material. The general public is not going to know and will not benefit from this rollback."

Johnson notes that publishers actually "rent" highly visible placement for their magazines, and so retailers like Wal-Mart need motivation to remove the revenue-producing publications. He also adds that many local store managers want to run a store with higher standards.

He told C&F Report that he had several people say that when they expressed their concern about the racy publications to local store management, the items were removed.

"While store managers are of all stripes, there remain many customer-sensitive and decency-friendly managers who only need the support of concerned shoppers to take the appropriate action," Johnson said.

Wal-Mart Still Not in Timothy's Plan
Meanwhile, Arthur Ally, president of The Timothy Plan, said while he applauds this move by Wal-Mart, it is not a strong enough action to prompt his mutual funds to re-invest in Wal-Mart stock.

"This is a good start, but Christians shouldn't be satisfied until these magazines are removed from ALL check-out lanes," Ally told C&F Report. Ally said that condition must be met before The Timothy Plan feels confident re-investing in Wal-Mart.

"Why do they have to have it in the check-out lanes anyway?" he asked. "Sexually suggestive magazines are the marijuana of the porn industry. It gets people accustomed to being surrounded by sexual messages. Now even the good, family-oriented magazines are adding more sexual content to keep up with the sales of the racier periodicals."

Where does the fight go now? Ally says it should stay on Wal-Mart.

"We encourage people to contact Wal-Mart and thank them for this first step," he said. "However, we must remember that concerned Christians have been given 'segregated' check-out stands, as it were. There is no reason we should stop fighting for the elimination of this material from all of the check-out lanes. These magazines should be on a magazine rack where those who want them can find them, not in the face of every family there to purchase children's videos and Christ-honoring gift wrap."

Radical Homosexuals Target Family Retailer
As pro-family groups lobby Wal-Mart for decency, a radical homosexual pressure group has launched a campaign to persuade the retailer to enact special rights.

Pride At Work, a creation of the AFL-CIO, and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, are joining in protest of local Wal-Mart stores on November 21. The organizations want to pressure the nation's largest retailer to enact homosexual domestic partner benefits and include sexual orientation in its nondiscrimination policy. (The Task Force is a leftist "gay" group that is allied with sadomasochists and wife-swapping sexual "swingers.")

The Pride at Work press release says that activists plan to "shine a light on the real Wal-Mart," where there is "no written nondiscrimination policy on sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression" and where there are "no domestic partner benefits for Wal-Mart employees."

Peter LaBarbera, senior policy analyst for the Culture and Family Institute, criticized the expressed agenda.

"It is clear from their statements that these radical activists aren't concerned with homosexuals losing their jobs; they are focused on making it possible for, say, male employees to come to work in a dress - no matter how outrageous and disruptive that might be," he said.

"They also demand that Wal-Mart provide full health insurance benefits to a homosexual employee's lover," he added, "even though their own literature says that 60 percent of Wal-Mart employees have no health insurance benefit. Funding unnatural homosexual relationships undermines marriage and promotes wrong and harmful behavior."

Johnson says these protests from the far left further highlight the need for concerned pro-family customers to be vocal about their concerns.

"We must continue to be the salt and the light that Christ called us to be," he said. "When we express our concerns, and our neighbors know of it, it encourages them to speak up as well. We need that groundswell of citizen action to make a lasting difference."

Sure would be nice if "private companies" could pick and choose their customers, the same way customers pick the private companies they choose to shop with. But the trial lawyers wouldn't permit that.

The very fact that the number one topseller gay (homosexual) magazine in America is called INSTINCT, is enough to know that my 10-14 year old sons don't need to see hear or think that being homosexual is an instinct. Call me a homophobic, I don't care!

You might want to improve your debating skills. Calling someone an incorrect name is not good form.

Not that it is any of your business, but I do have kids and both my wife and myself consider ourselves conservative. According to your logic, since we like to watch porn we are not 'true conservatives'?

And the GOP wonders why they have trouble getting out the vote for their side.

Of all the years I have been online, CWFA is (that I have seen) filled with alot of various conservative issues. Last week they had an excellent article on the facts of the judicial nominees.

Maybe the radio show you listened to was themed porn, specifically?

Dunno, but their web site has never given me the same impression you stated.

A non-smoker can demand a smoker not smoke any where in public, in some cases even their own homes, but for decent people to demand that their children not be exposed to sex magazines in the check out lane is a scandal.

Neither of which is moral or right.

Don't like the checkout line? Don't shop there !!

Not only does it remove the irritation, it decreases their revenue. We are NOT entitled to force the world conform to our desires, only to try to persuade it to do so.

With the DNC "it depends on your definition of porn."

The HBO shows Six Feet Under and Sopranos has porn in it,I watch them both. The show Will and Grace has made being gay "hilarious." Before 'parental controls' we all snuck and watched the then brand new- HBO- the then forbidden fruit as teenagers.

If there are folks out there that watch only The wonderful world of Disney and PBS, all power to em. Many shows alot of people watch have porn in them, but "it depends on each definition of porn." I resect the Baptist religion for instance, yet I expect the same respect that I drink, play bingo, gamble, play cards.

CWFA is concerned with their brand of 'conservative' issues. Which is their right as Americans. But they wish to take away others rights and force others to follow their beliefs, which is wrong.

If they have trouble with Cosmo, Victoria's Secret, and porn then don't shop at places that carry them. But they don't do this, they try to get the hand of govement to make it illegal, which seams to be the reverse of their 'conservative beliefs'.

The same arguments the are used to support gun ownership can be used to support quite a few of the things that CWFA rails against.

God gave use freewill. Why do so may people who profess to be 'Christians' want to take that away?

Abortion is the big problem. Not porn.

I don't know, I've never manipulated any money, but good stewardship of the funds with which I've been entrusted, and planning for retirement in such a way that permits me to meet my needs and continue to support Christian ministries might be considered "related to" Christianity.

Just who are you trying to convince here, you or me? Furthermore, as I read it your best efforts in this area would still only amount to nothing more than a pile of filthy rags, now if there is pride involved, well, you have become a stumbling block too.

Don't worry about tightsqueeze. If you follow the thread, you will see that his opinion is this:

"Investing in the stock market is a sin. Except for me. When I do it, I don't claim to be following the Bible, therefore, it's ok. Oh, and all you who asked me to back up numerous times that investing in the stock market is a sin - wait, what was the question?"

Really, follow the thread. That sums up his opinion on the matter.

I'm one Christian investor who doesn't need Mr. Ally to give his seal of approval to my investment choices. "Sexually suggestive" magazines are in the eye of the beholder. When I'm in the checkout line, I don't look at the magazines, and I never buy them. Meanwhile, he's doing his investors a disservice by refusing to invest in a strong, profitable company.

Yeah-- I think Ally's efforts would be better directed to tackling this whole "preferential treatment for deviants" deal that the "tathk forth" is trying to push... (Nice one, Tex... Bwahaha...)

I took the article differently than you. I suppose we are left to assume; but I do not think they have a problem with anything but the homosexuals wanted their mags i e...... INSTINCT on the check-out shelves of Wal-Mart/grocery stores etc...

from http://www.cultureandfamily.org/articledisplay.asp?id=2774&department=CFI&categoryid=cfreport "The months-long effort was aimed at having sexually-suggestive materials, like Cosmopolitan and Glamour magazines and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, either removed from check-out lanes or covered with blinders, so as to not offend customers — particularly those shopping with children." I listen to the CWFA radio program (right now they are talking about the issue of God in school/public) and have read their website. http://www.cwfa.org

but is it really that disturbing to see a "J. Lo sex romp" headline while in the grocery lane?

As a parent who had to explain oral sex in the Oval Office to a (then) seven-year-old, and who has another child just learning to read...yes.

Then don't shop at stores that carry products you don't like. That is the solution. It is not an easy solution, but it is a solution.

I don't have a problem with anything they sell. If I don't want it, I won't buy it. But I don't think it's too must to ask to have the option of not subjecting my kids to those headlines.

I'll still shop at Wal-Mart and if/when it's a problem, rather than an inconvenience, I'll either shop elsewhere or just not take the kids.

But as a loyal customer of any establishment, I've got the right to voice my opinions, either verbally or by walking out.

Strange, but I never see any of these magazines when I check out in Wal-Mart. Of course, I check out in the gerden center, where the lines are shorter and I can park closer to the door. Not even a racy gardening magazine.

I am entitled to alot of things, and I want everything I got coming to me.=o)

Second hand smoke as nothing on having your three year old ask what's up on a magazine cover. It's not moral or right to have those magazines where children can see them.

It's not societies obligation to make purchase of such material convienient to the customer. A business is smart to go with what the majority of customers prefer.
