Check post #10
It shows design concepts #1, #2, and #3 in order.

These are all truly awful. Let me use my professional architectural background to trash these with just a sampling of descriptions that come to mind. Gargantuan, massive, inhuman, scaleless, ugly, graceless, impractical, and downright bad design for far too many reasons to list. I agree. They all look ugly to me....like they were designed on a Vulcan launching pad. Scarey.

I would gladly work on the 100th floor of a new WTC (or the 200th floor for that matter) if my company could afford the lease. I believe your fears are unfounded. After all, other gigantic skyscrapers such as the Empire State Building and the Sears Tower have never been attacked by terrorists. I think the WTC attack was a one-shot deal that is unlikely to be duplicated again. Don't get me wrong, the terrorists will strike again (unless we manage to kill them all first), but I'm thinking more along the lines of a biological or chemical attack or maybe shooting airliners out of the sky with Stingers. I just don't see a planeload of passengers allowing terrorists to hijack a plane in the USA again without storming the cockpit. Besides, the Air Force will blow it out of the sky anyhow. We were caught with our pants down on 9/11 - it won't happen again.
That said, I don't like the designs on that web page. The building is just too massive and it doesn't fit in with the rest of the Manhattan skyline. I'm all for building the tallest skyscraper in the world there, but I prefer a leaner, sleeker skyscraper along the lines of the Empire State Building or the Chrysler building. Those two buildings reflect excellent taste in architecture and practically define Manhattan. The buildings pictured here look like they belong in Malaysia or Singapore.

I think the WTC attack was a one-shot deal that is unlikely to be duplicated again. Arabs are big into symbolism. The old WTC was attacked twice. In 1997, I attended an FBI terrorism conference, and the cover of the study book had the WTC with a gun sight on it.
There's also the question of whether office space is needed in NYC now. With Bloomberg doing everything he can to destroy the economy, businesses are relocating out of the city and state as quickly as they can. Why would I locate a business in NYC?
I'd love to see the WTC rebuilt, but there are a lot of other changes in NYC before it makes sense. BTW, I agree with others, the designs presented here are not good.

What Sci-Fi artist came up with these?
This is all they are coming up with? I vote for none of those. I'm all for Bigger and better, but it has to at least be classy! Those 3 you posted are eye sores IMO.

They all look ugly to me....like they were designed on a Vulcan launching pad. I was thinking they belong in a bad UPN Sci Fi show. "Space Command 3" or "Upsilon 4" or some other stupid show guaranteed to be cancelled quickly.
To: Momaw Nadon
Apparently some of the upcoming schemes will be very very tall.
To: Momaw Nadon
Neither!!! Ugly!! They both look like something that rose out of the earth in a 'sci-fi' movie.
Nothing can replace the clean, sharp towers we had, except the same thing. If the top floors would have difficulty being rented, then make those top floors a simple facade --- but keep the design we know/knew, loved and prayed for.

I think those designs were barrowed from the 1950s sci-fi "B" movie Cronos. Something about a giant robot that stumps all over the place crushing cities underfoot.
I am all for building them bigger and better. We can do better than this.

How come all concepts have a top that either looks like a Pyramid or a Mosque? Did those people die to have a building be rebuilt as a salute the sand people and their moon god?

Sorry, none of the above. They all look rather mosque like.
Back to the drawing board.

Ugly, uglier, ugliest.
I much prefer the "Finger" design...

Thank you for posting that. It deserves a thread of it's own...

Stupid designs that look like green sticks of dynamite. Not the most appropriate appearance.

I still say this thing looks like it could actually SINK the island.
And I also still say "Thank goodness this guy Derek Turner is only pretending to be in the running"...

7 legitimate proposals to be unveiled in 2 weeks, with a final decision coming in February(though I bet that gets delayed).
