These are real photographs taken at random. Why do people think they need more space in their vehicle?
You paid $29,000 for this?
All that for a blanket?
Empty
Empty
OK, but that'll still fit in a standard trunk.
Beach chairs will fit in a trunk.

I could say the same for a car trunk as you say about that "space".

Gee, oh gee, pictures of empty SUVs.
A friend of mine has a pickup truck that goes around empty most of the year. However, come spring time when it is time to pick up dirt, lend a hand moving someone, taking old appliances like dish washers to the dump, etc it comes in quite handy.
During part of my youth my parents had a stationwagon and we would fill it come time for family vacations or helping take the soccer team to an away game, etc. etc.

Well these people have a lot of empty space between their ears but you don't hear us telling them they need to downsize their heads because their brains aren't big enough to fill the void.
To: BJungNan
The answer is easy. Simply criminalize "thinking-that-one-needs-more-vehicle-space-than-one-uses" as a hate crime against "the environment".

Wonderful article, wonderful point.
What we really need is a government department to decide exactly how much space every person needs in his car.
But why stop there? Let's have similar departments to determine how much people should be allowed to eat, how big their homes can be, etc.
Since the government will be determining your needs, it should also be the government's job to provide for them. Of course to be able to do that, it's only right that everyone should "pitch in" as much as the government figures is fair.
Hey, I've come up with a catchy phrase to sum this all up:
From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs!

I see so many SUVS that you can tell have never, ever been off paved roads and have never gotten much dirt on them. We have a chevy impala that we take up in the mountains, camping, etc.. At its worst, it gets MUCH better gas milege than these SUVs.
What a waste, spending $29,000+ on a vehicle that at its best MIGHT get 10 miles to the gallon. We spent $600 on our car. :-)

Roger the post. No offense intended.

OH!...THE HUMANITY !!!

Say now, this is a brilliant article! I am simply speechless (not really). So SUVs have empty space huh? Well, how about the empty space is homes when a person isn't there? How the empty space in offices during the weekend? How the empty space is sports stadiums when no games are being played? It seems to me that we should simply tear down all structures which aren't being used on a 24/7 basis. (Sarcasm off)

I saw an empty VW bug yesterday! Sitting there 0% occupied, wasting valuable resources.
And have you ever looked inside the passing city buses? 99% empty, taking up more than their share of the road ... rolling roadblocks! They stop 20 feet after every intersection, completely paralyzing traffic and leaving drivers stranded in the intersection as the light changes.

I marvel that someone has the time and desire to go around taking photos over this much space...

It might surprise these idiots to learn that people with compact cars don't have every square inch of the interior packed to capacity.
