LA Letter Writers Plug Landrieu Reelection for Dec. 7

There's no excuse not to vote in Senate election

William E. House

Minden

This is to all the registered voters in Louisiana. Get out and vote. It is the duty of all able-bodied, registered voters to get out and vote.

Unless you are confined to a bed, there is no excuse for not voting.

In a perfect world, there should be no less than a 100 percent turnout for any election. We Democrats and Independents need to send Mary Landrieu back to Washington with no less than 70 percent of the votes. We need to make a statement that the Republicans can't buy our votes with promises.

Landrieu has done a great job for us in Washington and for the state of Louisiana. We need that voice for the Democrats in Washington; we don't need someone who will be a rubber stamp and vote for everything the president and the Republicans put on the table.

We are living in serious times and we need to get serious about who we send to Washington to represent us.

Let's send an experienced senator back to Washington, one who is strong and knows the ropes, one who will stand up and fight for what is right. Landrieu is that person. Let's get out and vote.

Landrieu will work harder for Louisiana

Reagan Sims

Ruston

Re: Nov. 21st Letter by Mickey Cochrane titled "Louisiana needs a Republican in office."

This Republican will vote for Mary Landrieu. Mary has been a good senator for Northwest Louisiana. Cochrane wrote that a Republican could deliver more funds than Landrieu. I must remind readers that President George W. Bush cut the highway budget this year and had no money for Interstate 49. Landrieu championed the delegation's push to increase highway funds so that I-49 was not shutout.

Defense is a priority for the senator. She delivered more than $145 million for Barksdale Air Force Base for B-52 modernization, runway improvements, a new control tower, new on-base housing for military families and more. When the 8th Air Force headquarters burned down, Landrieu delivered funds to rebuild.

She also secured $1.2 million to keep the Minden Youth Challenge program alive.

Finally, Landrieu will be more effective than Suzanne Terrell even with Republicans in control. Terrell will owe everything to the president and Trent Lott, who have bankrolled her. They will owe her nothing. She can't vote against them even when it is bad for Louisiana. Landrieu will have seniority, strong committee assignments, and independence.

This Republican will vote for Mary Landrieu.

Just what makes Mr. Sims a "Republican"? One might ask if a "Republican" who votes for the Democrat in a competitive high-profile race is really much more of a Republican than "Farmer Jim" in VT once was? So what are Mr. Sims' Republican credentials? Could it even be that his "Republicanism" is not much more than having the same (first) name as the (last) name of a famous Republican president?

Sure... Louisianans see right through it and ask themselves what a Senator in the minority can bring them... nothing. Mary Landrieu has only been around six years so she's hardly an institution like John Breaux did. The good people of LA won't notice anything different when she's gone in a week's time. What then is the reason for keeping her around? To make a statement about President Bush? Sorry, but no cigar. They love him down in the Cajun state. No way they're goin' to listen to whine from liberal crackers about how LA must make a statement of independence from the Republicans and its an insult to all good Louisianans to suggest their votes can be bought. Its not like the GOP needs another Senate seat now and Louisianans know it. All the same Buh Bye Here's Mary!

We need to make a statement that the Republicans can't buy our votes with promises.

And we DEMOCRATS will buy our votes the old-fashioned way: take taxpayer (i.e., people who work for a living) dollars and hand them out via entitlements to make sure we get the votes from those who get handouts from US!

This Dem, apparently a proud graduate of the Huey Long/Richard Daley/LBJ School of Electoral Turnout, sees a 100% turnout as a bare minimum!

The true goal is a modest 150% turnout.

"there is no excuse for not voting."

Bring out your dead.......
