Three months before candidates' qualifying deadline for the 2003 elections, Democratic Lt. Gov. Amy Tuck is expected to announce her conversion to the Republican Party on Monday at a state Capitol news conference, GOP sources confirmed Wednesday.
Tuck aide Nan Tarlton said the lieutenant governor was unavailable for comment on Wednesday and Tarlton also would not comment.

It's been long rumored, and now appears to be true. Mississippi will have a Republican Lt. Governor next week.

Didn't Haley Barbour go to work for the UN after quitting the RNC?

Why a "ditz"? Because she can't stomach what the Democratic Party has become? Get a clue, dude. There are MANY Southern Democrats who are sick and tired of the ooze that is today's Democratic Party.......and they do not share that Party's so-called "values" one little bit.
You ain't seen nothin' yet.

DemRAT Response WHAT THE TUCK IS GOING ON DOWN HERE?

Though I know more about MS politics than most Mississippians, I must confess that I have never heard of Lt. Gov. Tuck. However, I see a correlation between her and the outgoing Acting Lt. Gov. Bill Ratliff in TX. Tuck sided with Republicans in reapportionment of Congress. Ratliff sided with Democrats in the redistricting of the TX legislature. Tuck was successful in helping shape a favorable district for Rep. Charles Pickering. Ratliff, who returns to Austin as a state senator from Mt. Pleasant, was outvoted 3-2 in crafting the redistricting plan favored by Democrats. So maybe if Tuck switches in MS, Ratliff will do the same in TX? The three Republicans who outvoted Ratliff were incoming Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, Comptroller Carole K. Rylander, and new Senator John Cornyn.

A minor nit-pick, here. It's really irritating when someone posts without any indication as to what location they're talking about. At the very least the full title of the newspaper source is in order.
For example, when I post stuff from my own locale, Houston, I always say "Houston Chronicle," not simply "The Chronicle."
I skimmed through this but was unable to determine where you're talking about this happening. "Clarion-Ledger" is the name shared by several newspapers that I can recollect.

This is the same problem that we encounter on the road when MOST radio stations give only their call letters and not their city of location.

Congratulations to Amy Tuck. It sometimes takes a little while, but eventually most people of decency and shame make the right decision to leave the scumbag party and join the humans. It takes guts to make the switch at the level she has reached, but better late than never.
Contrast this with Senator Jeffords who proudly proclaimed, "I want to be a scumbag!"

Burton said some senators could follow Tuck to the GOP if she leaves the Democratic Party, but he would not identify anyone he believed predisposed to making a change.

To be perfectly honest, I never have any problem with any Demodog who finally sees the light, and decides after many years of delusion to switch to the GOP. I did so myself, and believe it is the natural course of our true selves. Unlike those going to the demodogs, I do not question the motives of those becoming conservative. Even Winnie Churchill said: (something like...)
"Anyone who is not a liberal when they are 20 has no heart.
Anyone who is not conservative when they are 40 has no mind."

I get a tad annoyed when I can't immediately see what state or location a story is dealing with, but this one had this passage:
The state's Republican leadership including U.S. Sens. Trent Lott and Thad Cochran and U.S. Reps. Chip Pickering and Roger Wicker is expected to be in Jackson to endorse Tuck when she announces the party switch at the 2 p.m. news conference, Capitol Hill sources confirmed.
....and it was pretty easy to figure out from there.

"Clarion-Ledger" is the name shared by several newspapers that I can recollect. I understand your point. If their are other newspapers called the Clarion-Ledger, then the Clarion-Ledger in Jackson,Miss is by far the largest. It is the largest newspaper in the state.

I know. too many folks assume that we all live in the same neighborhood and read the Barney Fife News.
