Geremy -- Turkey: You buy the turkey and take the paper off. Then
you put it in the refrigerator and take it back out and cut it
with a knife and make sure all the wires are out and take out the
neck and heart. Then you put it in a big pan and cook it for half
an hour at 80 degrees. Then you invite people over and eat.

Andrew -- Pizza: Buy some dough, some cheese and pepperoni. Then
you cook it for 10 hours at 5 degrees. Then you eat it.

To all our Veterans in the service:

We remember you this
Thanksgiving Day.
From the front lines,
To the mess hall,
...While you sleep in your bunk.
Our hearts aren't quite whole,
'Cause we're missing, - your "chunk!"

We love you.
Hope you enjoy this poem I wrote only this morning:

Thanksgiving Day

Today is the day that we designate
To look inward in remembrance
And upward in thanks
For the many times that we've forgotten
To thank you for sending your "only begotten"
Accept our "Thanksgiving" on this special day
Make us reflections of you, in some small way
Thank you for America, and her righteous remnant
For freedom, for justice, and our troops who defend it
And thank you for your guidance in our elections
Protect us from traitors who would rule through deceptions
Send us leaders who've passed your inspection
As we await your return and great day of reception
Remember and provide for those left by our fallen
Prompt us to love them, console them, and call them
Train us your children, to stand for what's right
Faithful to your call as your "salt" and your "light"
You're the "Alpha" and "Omega," the first and the last
Protect us and guide us, till our "watch" here is past
And so, we give thanks for your love and your truth
Remembering always, that it's: "...All About You!"

I got up early to start cooking, turned on the TV for company and the first thing I saw was the report on the attacks in Africa. I waited to see if the alert status here in the US would be raised, and it wasn't.

As the morning went on, interviews and taped greetings with service men and women from all over the world were being broadcast to us here in the states...from Ramstein, and Bagram, from the decks of air craft carriers. It was better than the parade!

Our security and our joy of being with family, travelling freely, of just going about our lives, is a gift to us bought at great cost, not just to the men and women of the service, but the families that love them and miss them, and the parents who raised their children to love our country and serve. It is truly humbling to receive such a gift. We thank God for you. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

National Geographic Television Spotlights USS Tarawa
Story Number: NNS021125-04
Release Date: 11/25/2002 12:35:00 PM

By Journalist 2nd Class Crystal King, USS Tarawa Public Affairs

ABOARD USS TARAWA, At Sea (NNS) -- Heads turned and eyes darted towards a film crew aboard USS Tarawa (LHA 1) recently, as the amphibious assault ship's Sailors and Marines became the major focus for the video cameras of a National Geographic television documentary team.

The four-member film crew came aboard Tarawa from Nov. 14-21 during Fleet Exercise operations, the second-to-last phase of the Tarawa Amphibious Ready Group’s training exercises in conjunction with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, off the Southern California coast.

“We’re making a documentary about the Sailors and Marines preparing for deployment, potentially towards the Arabian Gulf,” said production correspondent Michael Davie. “We want to paint a television portrait of these people, particularly the young adults, about their feelings and the lifestyle aboard ship, and what they think about the possibility of going to war.”

Throughout the week, various crew members allowed the National Geographic team to look at their daily lifestyle, as well as their roles in a variety of training exercises, including a mass casualty drill, well deck and flight deck operations, and a search-and-rescue drill.

“We do this because we want to, not because we have to,” said Aviation Structural Mechanic 3rd Class Michael Garcia, one of Tarawa’s search-and-rescue swimmers.

“I think this will make citizens of the United States of America realize how hard the American Sailor and Marine work during a normal work day, and how well trained and prepared they are in case they have to go to war,” said Capt. Jay Bowling, the ship’s commanding officer.

The documentary does not have a scheduled air date yet.
