SADDAM Hussein brought war in Iraq closer last night after hints that UN weapons inspectors would be banned from searching his palaces.
Chief inspector Hans Blix said Iraqi officials told him entry into presidential sites was not the same thing as entry into factories.
But Mr Blix said bluntly: The Security Council authorises us to go anywhere, anytime and we intend to do so.
A UN resolution demands that the inspectors get full access and threatens dictator Saddam with serious consequences if he blocks them.
Dr Blix also poured scorn on Saddams insistence Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction.
He demanded proof that stockpiles were destroyed and accounts from chemical factories.
Saddam is believed to have arsenals of biological weapons beneath his huge palaces. He also uses bunkers beneath hospitals and schools.
But the UN team showed off equipment they claim will spot anything Saddam has.
It includes ground-penetrating radar that can uncover underground facilities and radiation detectors.
Saddams latest show of contempt came a day before the inspectors start work.
A British diplomat said: It looks like well go down a depressingly familiar route ending in military action.

I haven't seen this reported anywhere else - sometimes the Sun does get it right however. This has the ring of truth about it.

President Bush and Tony are counting and adding up all of the material breach and other illegal activities.
That way when both countries on 8 December start the biggest air attack in air war history, they can read off the Material Breaches and other violations attempted by Uncle Saddam.

It looks like well go down a depressingly familiar route ending in military action. I don't think we'll go too far down that route. Blix needs to quit pussy-footing around and make straight for one of those palaces.

You are the 2nd Freeper i have seen mention December 8th as a possible date for a war. What is the significance of that date?
I really hope that is not a stupid question (LOL) ...if it is an obvious thing please bear with me. Thanks.

The article neglects to mention mosques as another hiding place Fair enough. And I doubt Blix is prepared to inspect there either.

The more we legitimize the guy by keeping him in an official position to discuss, the more he will see his chances to influence the public and what not.

We're in kind of a calender problem here.
If anything is found before Dec. 8th, Saddam has an "out", he will say "whoops, sorry, we were just finishing our accounting and were about to tell you about that site."
We need to catch him with the goods after he finalizes his list (or his total denial) on Dec. 8th.
To: spetznaz
December 8th is the day in which Saddam has to declare all WMD or be in breach of the resolution.
To: spetznaz
See #11. December 8th is the deadline for Saddam to turn in his final accounting of any and all WMDs.

I agree, I do like what it says and that in and of itself has taught me to not take it for granted. I'll trust your opinion of the Sun as that nooooze presstitute pile is in your arena .

On Fox and Friends (Fox News Channel) this morning, it was reported that Hans and Company arrived in Iraq without secure phones for communications. I haven't seen that reported elsewhere on FR today.

Your question is not stupid and Dec 8 is not all that obvious. Apparently the time limit with the UN is 6 December. I think that is the final day of Bombaramadon or ramamadan.
We will probably not strike on 7 December for certain historical reasons.
That leaves 8 December. Their mosque hate sermons will be over by Saturday. We are still in a new moon week.
There were some strong hints a few weeks ago that GW and Tony were not going to allow this to drag on.
They are just collecting all of the breaches and other standard BS besides firing on our planes. That way they will have a long list to read off while the UK and our planes are flying several thousand missions each day for the first few days.
I think that they want this thing basically over by Christmas.
If 8 December is not the date, then the next new moon in January or Febuary.
The SAS and our spec ops probably have a lot of boots on Iraqi soil as we discuss this. They are preparing for a lot more boots on soil the week before.
If al Qaeda is stupid enough to attack the UK or the US before then, then actions will be moved up.

Good point.
I was thinking Saddam's not going to allow us into those palaces in the first place. Particularly that huge complex of his that's the size of DC. So he'd be in a material breach right there. Of course, if I'm wrong, then your point comes into play . . .
So it is probably best that we wait until Dec 8. :-(
In other words, we have at minimum 12 more days of enduring this farce, plus another week or three twisting the UN's arm into going along with military action.
Irritating.

Today on Rush, Rush was saying that Blix was in New York, instead of in the trenches with the U.N. inspectors... he obviously doesn't want to be anywhere near Iraq on December 8th!!! Blix is worthless and even CNN has been slamming him. Unbelievable!
