SOUTHFIELD -- The Rev. Keith Butler unquestionably knows how to reach people. He does it daily at his 19,000-member Word of Faith ministry.

But can the former Detroit city councilman bring together cantankerous conservatives and mischievous moderates who disrupted an Oakland County Republican party convention?

My wife and I attend Word of Faith, and hold a great deal of respect for Keith Butler. He has a church with over 19,000 members, mostly black, and I saw a whole lot more Bush/Cheney bumper stickers in the parking lot than Clinton/Gore in 2000 (in fact, I don't think I say any Clinton/Gore bumper stickers then).

Keith Butler also led a delegation of black ministers to DC in support of Clarence Thomas in the early 90's, and was the first black Republican ever elected to Detroit City Council.

I do think this is refreshing news. I am also glad that Rusty Hills resigned after the election. His negative ads lost us the campaign.

Oakland and Macomb county are going to be pivitol in the 2004 election, of course Wayne county is completely hopeless, but keeps your eyes and ears open for some big players coming in for fundraisers to Detroit. We are going to get a bigger presence of the GOP in Wayne.

His negative ads lost us the campaign.

Would those be the "It's extreme, it's liberal, it's Granholm" ads? I thought maybe those were what tightened up the race toward the end.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

No, the Kilpatrick Memo ads really screwed us.

The man on the street ads were fantastic.
