but only when they're winning at a rival casino.

"We love winners...

Very easy for the house to say when the odds are stacked in favor of the house and they are confident that there will be few winners.

I've always said, that if you can gamble and be a consistent winner 51% or 52% of the time, quit your job and move to Las Vegas. You will do very well.

Oh, bulls***. Whatever gaming commission is in charge needs to slam them hard. For them to sit and claim that "high payout machines" become more available if you bar winners is the height of gaming profiteering.

In a related story, there is a group of young guys in New York who were arrested for hacking into the Off-Track Betting system and entering a series of bets after the Breeders' Cup races were over. They "won" a jackpot of several million dollars for picking the winners in six races in a row.

I found out yesterday that this story is going to have a very interesting conclusion, and it has nothing to do with the characters who were arrested. Because there was actually no six-race winner, the jackpot will be divided among all of the people who picked five consecutive races.

The problem is that many winners at the horse races in New York use people called "Ten Percenters" to collect their winnings. These are people who hang around at racetracks and OTB locations and sign off on the winning tickets in exchange for 10% of the prize money, thereby allowing the actual winner to avoid reporting the winnings to the IRS.

There is a distinct possibility that some people who used these "Tem Percenters" will not be able to collect on this five-race Breeders' Cup jackpot because they did not sign off on their winnings. And some guy who thought he was getting 10% of $20,000 in prize money by filling out one of those betting slips is actually going to be contacted by the New York State racing commission and informed that he is one of a small group of people who will split a $5 million jackpot.

Maybe there is justice in this world after all.

Odds don't have a great deal to do with this issue - the fact is that chronically successful blackjack players are quietly banned from Vegas casinos as well, John Scarne being a notable early example. This is public relations. Bad, bad public relations. Everyone tends to imagine him- or herself a more skillful player than he or she actually is, which is why casinos so seldom go broke. This sends the message "if you're really good, we don't want you to play here," and will discourage not only those who really are inordinately skillful, but those who only imagine they are.

"Our decision benefits 99.99 percent of our guests because it keeps high-paying machines in play and it does not force us to reduce the very generous comp, promotions and double-points programs that we offer,"Greektown spokesman Roger Martin told The Detroit News for a Monday story."

Yes, it benefits the guest who aren't winning... If you win, you will be ejected- NICE

Greektown Casino has ejected about 30 video poker players in recent weeks because they have become unprofitable customers, casino officials said.

Only 30 players? That's nothing.

The State of Delaware has informed 79% of the video poker and video slots players that as of midnight tuesday they are no longer welcome. 79% of the money generated for the state of Delaware by the video gaming players is generated in the smoking sections of the 3 "casinos" in Delaware. As of midnight tomorrow night - smoking sections are no longer permitted.

Obviously, the gambling industry (minus paramutual betting) is a total sham...along with the gaming commissions that supposedly keep them in line.

What a joke! The bottom line is this: the casinos will bar (boot) whomever they feel wins too much (they're "not profitable"). GEEEZZZZZ...talk about FREAKING DOUBLESPEAK!

I've often heard casino "friendly" persons say that it's ok to bar "card counters" in blackjack because it is cheating. Yet whenever I have had the chance to confront one of these people, they just can't seem to explain how anything you do in your head (i.e. "BRAIN" or "THINKING") can be cheating. Yet, it seems that some people believe these jerks....mainly because they think that "THINKING" is cheating. No wonder the vast majority of people are losers at the tables.

Cheating can only be defined as some physical action taken to change to legitimate outcome of a game. Now, I've heard some guys say.."well, there are card counters, but our dealers count cards too! (so as to counteract the card counters). Is the dealer cheating? Yes! Why? Because the dealer CAN physically change the game....they can shuffle the deck at any time! So if the deck gets "rich" in 10's (good for player), a counting dealer can just shuffle the deck. If it's "poor", leave it be and suck the money from the players.

I don't personally believe card counting is effective (IMHO), but that has been the "reason" casinos have been using for a long time to bar winning players from the BlackJack tables.

So now, it's not just the "card counters" but anyone who is "not profitable" (i.e. wins). Should be obvious that the gambling industry is feels emboldened enough to adopt sawdust mill tactics. Who is going to put these puppies in line?

They figured out the system and were holding the paying machines. No other players were getting to them. The casino was barring professional players. Happens all the time.
