A Opinion on the pulled threat about "Militant actions" ordered by the Fox government.
Personal Opinion - a post to a pulled thread | 11/23/02 | Richard S. Axtell

"We are already giving instructions to our consulates that they begin propagating militant activities -- if you will -- in their communities."

Boy, they sure know how to win friends and influence voters. "Militant" activities? I am going to assume that he does not understand the true implications of that word. If he means the disemination to militant anit-American propaganda, harsh rhetoric in the media, strikes, sit-ins, and possibly violence, I can assure him that this strategy is just asking for a nationwide backlash, with disasterous results, for his agenda. As I have said before, this is an issue that will not go away, and will dominate the scene for the next few years.

FOUR MEXICAN DEMANDS

1. The documentation or regularization (AMNESTY) of Mexicans currently in the United States (3 to 4 million presently in U.S.).

There are an estimated 11 million illegal Mexican and Latin American aliens in the U.S., obviously, unless they face facts, they won't be able to even draft a serious proposal, much less get it passed by our legislative branch. Public outcry against amnesty, since it will encourage a tidal wave of illegal immigration that will make the past look like a picnic, will cause our skitish and re-election conscious legislators to think twice, maybe three times.

2. Border safety and violence;

WHAT? Which do they want? We have anti-American violence NOW, against citizens, land owners, tourists, etc, ... by criminal elements, and now reports of incursions by Mexican Army units. Are we supposed to make it safer for them then? Oh, yeah... we should have water stations in the desert, so that foolish "illegales" that trust the wrong drug cartel "coyotes" won't end up as sand mummies.

3. Permanent visas for Mexicans' and removing Mexico from the country quota or country ceiling category because of the special relationship that exists; and

"Why don't you just tear up your law books, and retire all those unnecessary border guards, eh? And oh yeah, get rid of all that "American National Sovereignty" nonsense, will you? Bueno! There's a good Amigo!"

Guest worker programs or temporary worker programs

Pointless. Jobs exist for illegals because the ARE ILLEGAL. Illegal immigrants don't have unions, they don't get minimum wage, and they can't afford to complain. Legalize them, and all the US labor laws will apply, making the lion's share of those jobs simply disappear. If you have to pay minimum wage, health insurance, offer benefits, etc. ... why hire illiterate, unskilled people who can't speak English? The jobs that attract illegals will still attract illegals, and the flood will not abate. This makes signing up for any "Guest worker" program a waste of time, as there will be very few jobs for those higher priced unskilled workers. Besides, if you tell the goverment where and who you are, you set yourself up for deportation, if the government changes its mind about all this. Employers might as well hire legal immigrants or Americans, if they have to pay so much more than they are now, and deal with all the massive government red tape and headaches of hiring a legal labor force. Perhaps, if the leaders of the U.S. and Mexico spent more than 10 seconds thinking about this issue, they might even come up with a realistic policy that would actually do something., but I doubt it.

The thread I was replying to was pulled, but I wanted to make a few points, regardless. Just as in the Slavery Reparations controversy, the real implications and unintended results of proposed policies like Amnesty for Illegal Aliens and Guest Worker programs are not thought our or discussed with any real vigor. If they were, the inherent fallacies of the proponents fundamental arguements would stick out like a sore thumb. This issue will not go away, and if the original article was somewhat disingenuous, or a complete fraud, the basic issues are not.

I don't know why it was pulled, but you can read the original article from the Houston Chronicle here:

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/business/1674114

It quotes Castaneda as saying: "We are already giving instructions to our consulates that they begin propagating militant activities -- if you will -- in their communities."

So, the original facts appear to be true. Whether that's unfortunate or not remains to be seen. Perhaps his statement will help people see the problem, but I fear it might require riots before that happens.

Hmmm. Now I'm getting more confused. There was a thread yesterday with this story, and as far as I know, it hasn't been pulled. Thanks.

What are they saying here? The Mexican government is telling their consulates to start getting the Mexicans HERE riled up, and ready to start trouble?
