Domestic cats are intelligent, affectionate, yet loftily independent pets. If abandoned by their owners, however, they become cunning scavengers and wily predators. They reproduce rapidly and form colonies that can present health and environmental problems. Military commanders and DoD officials are trying to deal humanely with cat overpopulation and are finding allies on and off base willing to help

If they are truly feral cats, then I would suggest a night-time special ops excercise. Night vision headgear and silencers (so nobody hears). A couple of sweeps through the place should be enough to bring the population under control for a while.

And lest someone think I'm just being cruel to cats, let me say that I have two of the most wonderful cats you could ever want, so I am definately a "cat person". The problem with feral cats is that they are dangerous and you can never really domesticate them if you capture them. It's not an inhumane act if you do it quickly and cleanly. Sad, because people have let them breed out of control, but not inhumane.

I have two cats and two dogs but I'm a dog person more than a cat person. Feral cats are pests, so are feral dog packs.

I hope Peter J. Egan has the necessary skill and the time to travel to all the air bases around the United States and humanely repair FOD'd jet engines.

Feral cats are pests, so are feral dog packs.

Feral cats threaten birds, etc. Feral dogs threaten people and are a bit more than pests.

Yes, both are pests but feral dogs are also very dangerous to people. Have been eliminating feral dogs for farmers for many years. Feral cats in populated areas are difficult to deal with, don't have good answers. Some groups spay/neuter them and then feed them as unconfined animals.
