Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) will become the most senior member of Congress next month when ageless Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) retires, and hes not shy about telling the world.
Byrd, who will have been in Congress 50 years come Jan. 3, made that point during an impassioned floor speech against the proposed Department of Homeland Security, which he called the most monstrous piece of legislation hed seen sent to the Senate.
God help me to reach that date of Jan. 3, 2003, the year of our Lord, he declared.
I have been on this Hill longer than anybody else in this Capitol on either side of the aisle in either body. In both bodies, I am the only person, 50 years.
I have been here longer than all of you, staff people, members, members wives. Take it or leave it, Robert Byrd has been here longer than anybody else the security, personnel, any policemen, whatever you call it, pull them out here, nobody, nobody in the House. [Rep.] John Dingell [D-Mich.], he is the dean of the House; I served with his father in the House.
O.K., Senator, we believe you, we believe you.

Millie......who is it?
When Byrd often gets into his rant and raving moods
he would talk about his dog, Millie, along with
countless other "who-the-hell-cares" kind of things.

Old fool!
And the worst kind...an angry old fool who thinks he's smarter and wiser than anyone else. I bet even democrats despise him.
