GOP targets Tancredo

GOP Targets Pro-borders Tancredo

Rep. Tom Tancredo, the nation's most outspoken opponent of the invasion of illegal aliens, is being targeted for defeat - not by the Democrats, but by the GOP establishment.

Just last week Tancredo, R-Colo., crushed his Democrat challenger by 37 points. But the moderates and liberals see him as a conservative loose cannon packed with ammo.

His "criticisms of President Bush's immigration policy bought him a 40-minute rebuke earlier this year from Bush adviser Karl Rove, who, in the Congressman's own words, warned him 'never to darken the door of the White House again,'" Roll Call reported Monday.

"I'll be surprised if he doesn't have a primary" in 2004, said Floyd Ciruli, an independent Colorado pollster. "It's a given."

Possible Republican rivals in '04 include popular state Treasurer Mike Coffman, state Sen. Jim Dyer and former Arapahoe County Commissioner Steve Ward. Democrats have given up on the conservative district south of Denver.

Tancredo's other capital crime, in addition to urging that the U.S. actually maintain its borders, is violating his pledge to serve only three terms. (Note that Democrats didn't raise a fit - publicly, at least - when the late Sen. Paul Wellstone made the mistake of breaking his word not to run again.)

Roll Call says "Tancredo is not one of the president's favorite people. Earlier this year, the Congressman accused Bush of pandering to Hispanic voters and trying to prop up Mexican President Vicente Fox by offering amnesty to certain undocumented immigrants. That declaration brought an angry 40-minute phone call from Rove, and Bush pointedly failed to introduce Tancredo to the crowd during a political rally in Colorado in September."

Ciruli said Tancredo's views on immigration were in line with his constituents'.

"Nobody who's going to argue the soft side of immigration is going to beat him in the Republican primary, or even in the general," he said.

Oops: Tancredo, founder of the House Immigration Reform Caucus, was embarrassed earlier this year when it was revealed that a house contractor he had hired employed illegal aliens, Roll Call reported.

But as the congressman said at the time: "I hired a reputable company, I did not hire the labor. It is the government's responsibility to enforce our immigration laws, and if the INS were doing its job, no illegal immigrant would be available to violate our labor laws."

Is anyone surpised by this? I'm not. They were willing to lose California rather than see Simon win. He was doing OK as far as I know until Bush sent his people went out there to split the party.

Exactly...and all the FR sheeple that think that our president is a conservatrive need to take another look.

Like his dad he is a moderate with some conservative leanings..but he is not a conservative

He like his dad want the New World order..

Meanwhile, back in the real world, homeland insecurity has been passed and we still have 4000-6000 illegal trespassers crossing our borders every 24 hours.......1 out of 5 being OTM's (other than Mexicans).

And here is the JOKE played on all of US

We get our shoes checked at the airport..our nail clippers taken and old ladies have to get stripped searched to PROVE that beep is a hip pin..and meanwhile the government policy is to allow every one over the southern border that wants to come..Do they think the Muslims are dumb?

The whole "Homeland Security" program is a "joke" on all of us"

We have less freedom and the terriorests can just walk in..

I'm curious as to what Rove could possibly say in the President's and his defense? Whether they say it out loud or not, it's obvious that they are sensitive with minority/Latino votes and aren't exactly acting on the right thing to do. It's expected of Demonrats, but the President isn't truthful on this and is more concerned with pandering for votes and he just doesn't like being called on it by a member of his own party that can't stand to see this country invaded and excused for it.

How dare a member of Congress suggest that we have the right and duty to defend our borders!

Tancredo was my congressman as well--hopefully it will be Beauprez really soon. I'm disappointed if this story is true. Why would President Bush try to oust Tancredo, a fellow Republican who happens to have a disagreement, but then gives rides on Air Force 1 to Hitlery and has Fat Teddy over for a movie and dinner. I'm proud of Tancredo and I hope he keeps harping about illegals (even though I know it's probably useless considering he is a lone voice) because it's the right thing to do. I voted for Owens too, but he is another big panderer to the illegals.

I couldn't have said it any better myself!

The Homeland Insecurity Act is just a B.S. P.R. stunt, and the next step the government is taking to chip away at law-abiding citizens' rights and privacy, helping to solidify the police state that is to come. Meanwhile, illegals get a total free pass, and even have the red carpet rolled out for them by Bush, courtesy of all the freebies they get once they cross the border, and all the crimes they commit that are ignored. Outrageous.

As long as the government continues to leave the doors and windows to our house wide open, there will be no Home Land Security

Does this guy ever do his own reporting? Does he ever make a single phone call or do any research on what he writes?

Again Carl Limbacher recycles someone else's article and pretends its news. This Tancredo weeper is from another story and doesn't have a word that can be backed up.

It's always amazing to me how Carl can watch a talk show or read someone else's column, write a couple of hundred words and throw it up on Newsmax. I hope they don't pay him.

If Tancredo really wanted to do something about illegals, why doesn't he come up with a bill and get McCain to sponsor it in the Senate. If McCain refuses, Tancredo should go public.

Directing his little self-serving propaganda machine against Karl Rove and (indirectly) Bush, he breaks Reagan's 11th Commandment and does no good for his pet issue...oh, yeah it gets him contributions and re-election. If he makes a big enough fuss maybe no one will notice he broke his pledge.

Probably because Bush can work with Hitlery and Kennedy but Tancredo is a loose cannon who is a McCarthy or Huey Long waiting to happen.

Because he brings up issues you would rather ignore?
Tancredo is no drunk populist. He adresses the issues rationally against name callers like you.

More pandering from Newsmax. Notice that their only sources that suggest there will be a GOP challenge are outsiders. They have no source inside the administration.

TARGET: Tom Tancredo (Warned "never to darken the door of the White House again.")
