Bush may have won Nov 5 but he doesn't have a mandate unless he can do it on TV!

The West Wing is a vehicle for liberals in denial. It's a "comfort zone" where they can retreat to when reality gets too uncomfortable. They always win in this fantasy world, because it's part of the script. If they let a Republican win, it would be too close to real life after all, and if they wanted reality they wouldn't be liberals.

Simple:

Amendment XIX.

1 The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
2 Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Amendment XXVI.

1 The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of age.
2 The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Amendment XXIII.

1 The District constituting the seat of Government of the United States shall appoint in such manner as the Congress may direct: A number of electors of President and Vice-President equal to the whole number of Senators and Representatives in Congress to which the District would be entitled if it were a State, but in no event more than the least populous State; they shall be in addition to those appointed by the States, but they shall be considered, for the purposes of the election of President and Vice-President, to be electors appointed by a State; and they shall meet in the District and perform such duties as provided by the twelfth article of amendment.
2 The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

And of course,lest we forget:

Amendment XIV.

1 All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. ...

Very nicely done... I quit watching The West Wing last year. Up until then, I liked the show very much.

But Sorkin was unrealistic when he had Bartlett, a President who lied to the American people, then admitted he lied, then was censured by Congress... run unopposed in the Democratic primary. Not going to happen in real life.

Then Sorkin blew it again by having the scandal put behind him 20 minutes into his "State of the Union" address. Wow! Is that all it takes?

The writing has gone downhill quickly as the stories have become more and more about less and less.

I thought I would miss the characters. I do not. Though Toby seemed to have the right idea about fighting the war on terror.

Kind of amusing !

There actually WAS a ( VERY short-lived ) series on the tube last year about a "liberal" senator who gets handed his walking papers by the electorate - ( Oh the UNFAIRNESS of it all ! ) - and has to try to figure out what to do with the rest of his (financially quite secure) life.

He kept saying things like : "But..but.. I took the RIGHT position on things like gun control, and health care...! "

The show was a huge yawn.

Good one. I actually think Sorkin might go for it, if Michael J. Fox was willing and healthy enough, and the Family Ties creators gave their permission.

It would be a great matchup - both characters are smart-alek know-it-alls.

With the West Wing ratings in a nosedive, the show needs something to perk it up.
