(LONDON) TUBE (SUBWAY) 'CYANIDE PLOT'

Three men have been charged over an alleged plot to release cyanide gas on the London Underground tube network.

The men are north African muslims said to belong to a group linked to al Qaeda.

The alleged plot was foiled after the group was infiltrated by MI5 agents in a six month operation.

The men are thought to be of either Tunisian or Moroccan background and belong to a group called the North African Front, said to have loose connections with Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network.

One of the men is aged 21, the second 33. The third is in his mid 30s.

They appeared at Bow Street Magistrates' Court earlier this week and were remanded in custody.

Details of the hearing were not released by Scotland Yard at the time and have only just emerged.

The three men will re-appear in court on Monday.

It's not universal about jail time. A distant relative of mine here, who runs a market stall here in London, got angry after 9/11 because an Arab butcher was playing his Arab rock and roll too loud. She asked him to turn it off. He didn't. She returned with a stick and smashed his radio to pieces.

No jail time involved.

Just for the record, the whingeing, weak-kneed, appeasing Guardian says there are 1.8 million Muslims in the UK in total. That is out of a population of 60 million.

The Muslims seem to be going out of their way to anger and enrage the wrong people lately. First there was that grinning idiot who planted the Bali bomb who made the Australians angry, now this plot.

God I hope it's some of the SAS people I've met in my time who get to Osama first.

That MI5 is a very handy thing to have and we Yanks ought to steal this idea, and improve upon it (much as we have for everything except beer and cheese) The FBI and the Justice Department are really not set up for the kind of operation that produces results like this. Their focus is too much on prosecution of criminals and not on prevention.
The old bureaucrats are having a hard time changing gears. I think the "homeland security bill" should include funding for a military intelligence agency for just this purpose, and the Brits could help train our guys.

In fairness, I must point out that one contributing factor in these groups being successfully infiltrated is the patriotism of muslims who love Great Britain, and the USA, and who detest seeing their faith high jacked by extremists. They have been volunteering to participate since 9/11. They are the quiet majority of muslims, who have been given a black eye by the actions of a bloodthirsty few...like soccer fans.
MadIvan, targeting children is not new. The high jackers that flew the plane that hit the Pentagon knew that their fellow passengers were mostly children on a school field trip. There were two English children who died in the WTC.
And widgysoft, the man who made the comment that the Georgia Sherrifs should arrest "anyone with a diaper and a fan belt on his head" has not been arrested for being anti-social...he has just been elected to the US Senate (Saxby Chambliss). Maybe if you just found a more colorful way to express yourself, you too, could have a career in politics.

THEY APPEARED IN COURT LAST WEEK IN LONDON - 6 MEN ARRESTED 8 OR 9 DAYS AGO. THEY WERE GOING TO MIX THE CYANIDE ON BOARD THE TRAIN AND THEN RELEASE IT. THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING ON THEM AT THE TIME OF THE ARREST. THEY MUST HAVE FOUND SOME INFO IN THEIR HOMES.

It's not necessarily British Muslims who got involved to help MI5. Remember, most British Muslims come from the Indian subcontinent - it could just have easily been one of our Hindu friends.
