Iran 'could help US topple Saddam'

Iran might help the United States topple Saddam Hussein despite years of mutual antagonism between the two countries.

Iranian diplomats are in talks with their American counterparts to provide support in military emergencies such as pilots shot down or naval accidents in the Persian Gulf.

The Pentagon says "preliminary feelers" between the two countries were underway through Arab intermediaries.

Iran has also allowed a group of dissident Iraqi Shiite Muslims, now based in Tehran, to work with America to help overthrow Saddam, diplomats told USA Today.

The negotiations could provide a major strategic boost to US hopes of a swift victory in any war against Iraq. Iran and Iraq share a 730 mile border.

Iran's Islamic regime has been keen to get rid of Saddam for over two decades after he invaded the country in 1980.

Middle East experts said Iranian leaders may also be prepared to help the US to try to stop the country from becoming the next target in the war on terrorism.

America broke off diplomatic ties in 1980 when hostages were seized at the US Embassy in Tehran.

President George Bush labelled Iran a member of the "axis of evil" along with Iraq and North Korea earlier this year.

But in an attempt to encourage co-operation over Iraq, the State Department said Iran's ambassador to the United Nations could be invited to Washington later this month, the first such invitation for over a year.

One of the theories of why Saddam wasn't taken out in the Gulf War was that it would leave the fanatics in Iran without any check or balance (meaning Saddam). Involving them in getting rid of Saddam could be dangerous.

There have been pro-American demonstrations in Iran recently, in case you haven't noticed.

Iran is ripe for revolution.

I'll believe it when I see it, though I do believe reports of unrest among the youth of Iran. They see and know what freedom can be; they're too young to remember the Shah, but I'm sure they've been told stories about how much better economically Iran was under his patronage, and I believe if these people get into positions of power, Iran might be a candidate to leave the Axis of Evil.

Interesting. We encouraged Iraq to attack Iran and then supplied them with enough weapons to kill Iranians wholesale - in turn the Iranians killed the Iraqis by the thousands.

Now we are encouraging the Iranians to war against the Iraqis.

In a few years we will be encouraging the Iraqis to again attack Iranians.

All the while CIA agents just sit back and high-five each other.

I know lots of Persians. I like most of them. They've helped us in the past and they will help us in the future. They're smart, they have oil, they absolutely hate those motherf***ing mullahs and most importantly, they're not Arabs. So just point your nuke somewhere else.............. like Saudi.
